12.5oz - Banana Cotton Cote d'Ivoire Selvedge Type II Jacket - Indigo
Japan Blue Jeans - Banana Cotton Cote d'Ivoire Type II Jacket - Indigo
So we've been obsessed with Japan Blues Jackets after experiencing the Type 4 Ivory Coast piece. This one is quite a nice change-up. Being a Type II, it's a little more minimalist by nature. We're talking two, smaller chest flap pockets and no hand warmers like intended. This can be worn as a mid-layer in the colder months or a final layer in the spring/fall. The banana fiber is what really did it for us here. It gives the item a natural, non-forced snowy look that happens from all the loose banana fibers. What you achieve is instant texture gratification. We're also talking immediate softness! No stiff starchy beginnings on this piece. Just smooth sailing into Spring. These are fitting just a little different than the type 4 version, so pay close attention to the size chart.
This fabric is ethically source. Banana trees are usually harvested then burned yearly. This saves those trees to be turned into fabric, one 1.5-2 times longer staple than cotton. They worked tirelessly to mix this fiber with their Cote d'Ivoire denim.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size 40 or Medium in this piece. Like the rest of JBJ, this is slim but no more than usual. We have been seeing people size up one in this jacket. This thing has been rinsed so expect minimal to no shrinkage (especially if you beat it up and stretch it out first). This piece is a bit shorter than the 13.5oz modified type 4 version of it.
How could we say no to this? They did it perfectly. The Cote D'Ivoire Type II, with the modified handwarmer pockets was a best seller for us in its standard form. Trust us when we say, this blanket liner takes it to a whole other level. They not only lined the entire jacket, including the arms...but they've accented the cuffs, collar, pockets, and waist adjusters with the same fabric. This is the kind of stuff we nerd out over. The level of detail in this jacket is through the roof good. And, the fabric is that beautiful 13.5oz Cote D'Ivoire they're known for. It simply doesn't get better than this. It's the most complete blanket-lined jacket we've seen in our days as shop keepers.
We're always looking for more texture. Usually, it comes from fleck, slub, or some kind of special weaving pattern. In this case, it's a denim tweed. You got that right...tweed. The stuff they used to make more suits from without all the itch. But this time, they've done something quite magical. They've used a dark indigo denim to create what should be a beautifully aging and fading piece. The open pocket concept of a coverall jacket works incredibly well for a layering piece. This textured coat is one of the most beautiful things we've ever seen from Japan Blue Jeans...maybe any of our brands honestly.
