James Dant x Shangri-La - Custom "Yang Café Racer" Leather Jacket - Veg Tan.
We worked long and hard to get this collaboration to its launch. It's been nearly a year since we started discussing plans for a custom jacket with Shangri-La. To be honest, it all started with the liner. We saw this houndstooth pattern and thought..."my goodness that would look amazing in red." So we had Marko and the gang scrounge up some samples for us. We settled on this brilliant, vibrant red that we knew would give you that happy feeling every time you pull it out of the closet.
The next step was deciding on a silhouette. We waffled back and forth so many times between the "Café" and "Chiodo" for weeks. All we could imagine was how much of a rockstar you would look in the "Chiodo" with a "red liner." And that is what ultimately made our decision to go with the "Café." Not all of us are rock stars. Not all of us feel like putting on a costume every time we walk out the door. I'd venture to say...most of us want something hard-wearing that goes with everything...something with enough solid details to give you that tingly feeling when you pick it up but not enough to stick out like a sore thumb. It was always going to be the "Café" as it was our first love.
We had a good idea of which leather we wanted to do, but the question was...do we just do one or do we crank it up a notch. The Veg Tan was the first choice from the start. We absolutely love the way a veg tan ages - always have, and always will. This product ages like wood taking on all the scrapes, scratches, and imperfections of time. It also deepens in color in the sun. Don't believe us...check the pictures of the exact same Lambskin Veg Tan in the pictures after being kicked around and rubbed in the sand. Eventually, if you wear this enough throughout the years it will become a deep brown verging on black. That's the brilliance of Veg Tan.
We're so excited to be sharing this project with you. The good people at Shangri-la made our vision come to life. They did all of the hard work...the hardest being this leather clean during the cutting and sewing process. It's a joy to work with our good friends in Italy and see our brainchild come to life.
Please note, there will be variations in the leather. This could mean that one jacket is lighter or darker than the other. The leather seems pretty consistent from what we've seen, though. There is also going to be color transfer from the zippers to the leather. It's completely unavoidable, but doesn't make the jacket any less desirable nor change the fact that you will pick up colors, stains, and aging that will rival and even surpass those marks. This creates a "1 of 1" piece exclusive to you.
Every Jacket comes in a high-quality 100% organic natural cotton Bag, laced with Havana rope and with a screen printed logo.

We had a good idea of which leather we wanted to do, but the question was...do we just do one or do we crank it up a notch. Having decided to do the veg tan up front, this was the natural forward progression. It's essentially the veg tan treated to be black on the surface. What you don't see with this piece, as it's got a liner, is that the back side of the lather is veggie. So, as this piece ages it almost works in reverse of the veg. Pieces of the black will wear and chip away revealing levels of brown and tan underneath. This, is true nature of a tea core. It gives it an incredible aged look that is hard to accomplish any other way...and to be honest, nothing else will look as good as it ages.
We're so excited to be sharing this project with you. The good people at Shangri-la made our vision come to life. They did all of the hard work and absolutely crushed this design. It's a joy to work with our good friends in Italy and see our brainchild come to life.
Please note, there will be variations in the leather. This could mean that one jacket is has more veg tan showing through than the other. This creates a "1 of 1" piece exclusive to you.

"Café Racer" Leather Jacket - Black
Shangri-La Heritage - "Café Racer" Leather Jacket - Black.
Early on, we were the only brand carrying leathers from Shangri-La in America. Since then, they've been very good at growing their brand slowly in America and we're now one of a very few with a selection in their leather goods. These guys trust us to represent the brand in America and we appreciate them thoroughly for that. This season, we've gone hard and as far as giving specifications on the grade of leather we want. We are excited to really represent the brand this year, and this first round is just the start.
The Café is, and probably always be their best-selling jacket for us. The jacket was inspired by late 70s racing jackets but with Shangri-La's unique Italian touch. The piece is made with vegetable-tanned, drum-dyed, top-grain Lambskin from Tuscany (Italy). It also features an "Espresso Coffee" color viscose lining. You'll also notice metallic zippers made of antique brass with custom engraved markings. These bad boys are designed for bikers but can be worn by anyone looking for an heirloom jacket to wear during the cool months.

“Aviatore” B-3 Seal Shearling Jacket - Brown
Shangri-La - “Aviatore” B-3 Seal Shearling Jacket - Brown.
Early on, we were the only brand carrying leathers from Shangri-La in America. Since then, they've been very good at growing their brand slowly in America and we're now one of a very few with a selection in their leather goods. These guys trust us to represent the brand in America and we appreciate them thoroughly for that. This B-3 was an instant "yes" when we saw it on the line sheets. Compared to ones we've seen and touched in the past, this one blows them out of the water. The shearling sheepskin is absolutely luxurious and feels like a blanket on the body. This will be your warmest and most stylish jacket. Most of the time B-3's are built to spec, meaning they are usually huge on everyone. It's nice to see one that is more tailored. There is also something that always gets us about leather jackets Made in Italy. It just feels right.
Inspired by early 40s type B-3 Flight jackets from the Second World War and revisited with a unique Italian touch, the “Aviatore” B-3 Shearling Jacket represents an authentic garment made of Italian Shearling Sheepskin reinforced with leather trimmings in vegetable tanned Lambskin from Tuscany (Italy). The Shearling Sheepskin is the perfect natural insulator for cold weather. The soft sheep wool encases your body, ensuring maximum body warmth retention and at the same time wicking away excess moisture when the body generates it.

"Chiodo" Horsehide Leather Jacket - Whiskey
Shangri-La - "Chiodo" Horsehide Leather Jacket - Whiskey.
This one specifically was one we called out. We needed the most crackly, light-colored leather with the best pullup. And they delivered.
Inspired by 1950s Motorcycle jackets and revisited with a unique Italian touch, the “Chiodo” Whisky Horsehide Leather Jacket represents an authentic garment made of Front Quarter Pull-up Horsehide by Charles F. Stead, one of the oldest tanneries in the UK (since 1890s in Leeds, United Kingdom). The Front Quarter Pull-up Horsehide by Charles F. Stead is made by selected European Full Grain horse hides tanned with Steads’ traditional garment tannage and finished with a blend of “classic pull-up” waxes. This produces a pure aniline leather with a Unique Rich character. Charles F. Stead is a traditional family business established in 1895, which remained faithful to the artisanal skills, techniques, and know-how that others have forgotten, taking the time to work the leathers in the traditional way. These skills continue to live on in harmony with modern production technologies. Quality leather can never be a commoditized product, with each hide having its own characteristics, and they treat it accordingly.

Iron Heart - Japanese Horsehide Rider's Jacket with Collar - Black (Tea-Core Dyed).
Well, if we were going to get into leathers from Iron Heart, we were always going to start with a bang. This absolutely gobsmackingly good leather riders jacket has the kind of translucent shine you really only get from horsehide. This beauty is a black tea-core dye, meaning that as you wear it and that shine fades a bit, you'll start to see the natural browns of the leather poke through. We've seen this effect before, and trust us, it's mesmerizing. It's the type of antiquing everyone wants, but you can only get from the right kinds of leather. That all starts with this super soft chrome tanned horsehide from Himeji, the tanning capital of Japan. All the finishing touches that make this jacket iconic "Iron Heart" quality are listed below. The real story starts a few wears down the road when this thing starts to age to perfection.

“Stelvio” Melton Wool Dispatch Rider Coat - Forest Green
Shangri-La - “Stelvio” Melton Wool Dispatch Rider Coat - Forest Green.
Early on, we were the only brand carrying leathers from Shangri-La in America. Since then, they've been very good at growing their brand slowly in America and we're now one of a very few with a selection in their leather goods (and more). These guys trust us to represent the brand in America and we appreciate them thoroughly for that. We simply can't pass up Melton wool. We've yet to love another wool quite like this. It's soft and sturdy, with a hardy composition that makes it warm as hell. Then, you add on all the Shangri-La details listed below and you have something special. They never disappoint. With Shangri-la, it's like they have a fly on the wall for every conversation that ends in "I love this jacket, but it would be so much better if they added 'x'." They always think of 'x.' They never leave out the details you didn't know you wanted. The leather collar extension is the most glaring on this incredible coat.
Inspired by late 10s Dispatch Rider coats from the First World War and revisited with a unique Italian touch, the “Stelvio” Dispatch Rider Coat represents an authentic garment made of heavy Italian Melton Wool 26 Oz in Forest Green color, with leather trimmings made with vegetable tanned Lambskin from Tuscany. A double-breasted front provided an additional layer of protection to the chest, with a storm flap designed to keep water away from the body. The most distinctive feature of the coat, however, remains the slanted chest “Map” pocket used by the dispatch riders to carry messages. The lining is made of “Espresso Coffee” color viscose, and the leather collar-tab closes the neck to keep you warm during winter and cold trips.

Since then, they've been very good at growing their brand slowly in America and we're now one of a very few with a selection in their leather goods. These guys trust us to represent the brand in America and we appreciate them thoroughly for that. This jacket instantly brought out our inner nostalgia. This style jacket was all over our childhood in the late '80s and early '90s. It's clearly a much earlier inspiration than that, but all styles make a comeback. We're hedging our bet that this will give you that same nostalgia tingle that we don't often get from pieces of earlier time periods. Maybe it won't, regardless is one of the baddest jackets in our lineup and would instantly upgrade your wardrobe to a level hardly which hardly anyone could compete.
Inspired by late 40s British motorcycle jackets and revisited with a unique Italian touch, the “Explorator” Black Leather Jacket represents an authentic garment made of vegetable tanned, drum dyed, top grain Lambskin from Tuscany (Italy). The lining is made of “Desert Sand” color 100% cotton, and the collar-tab closes the neck to keep you warm during winter and cold trips.

The piece is made with a nubuck steerhide from VicenzaTuscany (Italy). It also features an "Espresso Coffee" color viscose lining. You'll also notice metallic zippers made of antique brass with custom engraved markings. These bad boys are designed for bikers but can be worn by anyone looking for an heirloom jacket to wear during the cool months.

These guys trust us to represent the brand in America and we appreciate them thoroughly for that. This season, we've gone hard and as far as giving specifications on the grade of leather we want. We are excited to really represent the brand this year, and this first round is just the start.
