ONI has been our holy grail brand from the very beginning, and we've finally been able to build a relationship with the brand and owner Masao Oishi. The brand is as old school and secretive as it appears. They use traditional construction methods to create low-tension, irregular, slubby denim that has a cult following. Their selvedge tickles the ancient part of our brain that makes us love denim so much. ONI does one thing and they do it to perfection. We can't wait to explore their wonderful world of fabric and fits with you guys.
ONI has once again raised the bar with their Ishikawadai denim, a fabric that’s genuinely crafted on the Ishikawadai Seisakujo, a ring-spinning machine built in 1953. This legendary machine operates at only a third of the speed of modern equipment, producing heavily textured cotton that feels raw, unrefined, and completely unique. The slower spinning process allows the denim to absorb ONI’s iconic green-cast “secret” indigo in a way that highlights the fabric’s natural characteristics. From the first wear, this denim exudes vintage charm, and as it ages, it will develop even more of that timeless nostalgia. With a lighter 15oz weight, this fabric is perfect for the season, yet it retains the low-tension weave and robust feel that ONI is known for. The result is a jacket that’s as comfortable as it is durable, blending heritage construction with everyday practicality. This Type I jacket stays true to its historical roots while adding thoughtful updates. It features a lower left patch pocket for extra utility and a cinch-back for that unmistakable old-school flair. Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size 42 in this jacket. To fit the roomier look of the pants, he wanted a size larger than he normally wears. As you can see, these fit a little smaller than the other two. This is how a classic type I is supposed to fit. So we are always going to recommend sizing up at least once in these. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs, with a 40" chest.
