When we knew we had the option to grab some Made in Japan denim from Benzak, this was our first choice. If we had to choose one weight of denim forever, it would be 16oz. And, you already know we love slub. These have so much texture that you would rightfully expect from Japanese denim. On top of that, they have all the extra details listed below you usually only see from Japan. The double-needle indigo stitch on the top of the back pockets and the hidden single needle along the inseam are two of our favorites. That's because they are details that only reveal themselves as the denim ages and fades. You also can't deny the 100% brass buttons and rivets. And, pocket bags. My goodness, the pocket bags look and feel amazing. Keep in mind, even though this is a 16oz denim, it will break it much quicker than your standard heavy slub denim. The left-hand twill will ensure that. Overall, it's one of the best pairs we've laid hands on in some time. They're pretty phenomenal.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size 30 in the images. His typical size is a 31, but these tend to fit bigger. On this heavier, higher-waisted denim, we would recommend sticking with your true size. Sizing down one was admittedly too tight for Tommy. The BDD-516 is a slim-fitting silhouette with a high rise, snug thighs and slim tapered legs. It can be considered Benzak's Japanese-made equivalent of the B-01 SLIM. It’s the ideal fit for anyone looking for a higher version of the BDD-006, or aiming for a slimmer fitting option compared to the BDD-711. Tommy is 5'10," 170lbs with a 32.5-33" true waist measurement.

It's rich and it's slubby, two things variations in the past haven't had. We could see guys wearing this in the office or as an indigo alternative out and about. If you recognize this beautiful fabric, kudos because it's been nearly a decade since its last release as part of the Made in Japan series. It has been their most requested denim since, because everyone loves a greencast. This hue is accomplished by adding a bit of green dye to the batch either just at the beginning or just at the end of the process. It creates a bit of a lighter, less indigo-dense fabric that is easy to see upfront. The real green comes out as the pair fades revealing a gradient of color. Probably the other reason these were so popular is that slubby texture was created by using uneven yarns in the weaving process. This yarn also has loose bits we like to call fleck.
