Pleated Jacket - Indigo
TCB - Pleated Jacket - Indigo - One Wash
You may be asking yourself why Two Cat's Brand (TCB) is so special. Well, beyond all the obvious details, there's a story. This is a brand that truly does what they love. Most things have a rhyme and reason, but sometimes they just create what suits their needs. The vintage, reproduction inspiration behind the brand is clearly visible. They're honoring styles from the '30s-'60s with a few items dating pre-1900's. Sometimes they create fantasy or future (e.g. present) cuts that didn't exist in the past, but the bulk of their work is true reproduction. That's what we went with on this round. You may also be asking, why such a low price compared to other Japanese brands. This is due to the fact that everything besides the milling of the fabric is done in-house. There is no outsourcing for cutting or sewing. In Kojima, the denim capital of Japan sits their vertically integrated factory where they do: fabric cutting, single stitch sewing, lapping seam sewing, applying buttons and rivets, and much, much more. We are so excited to introduce you to TCB.
TCB has made this jacket in reverence to one of the oldest denim pieces found in the world. The unique details from those days are the triple pleats, pure indigo dyed fabric and the flat fell seam sewing by single-needle. They have reproduced the jacket meticulously and faithfully.
This Jacket is probably TCB's oldest inspiration. It used to be a laborious process to produce clothing when chain stitching and lapping seam sewing machines were uncommon in the 1800's. With this period correct design, the seaming will be straight creating a neater look both inside and out.
There are several theories about why they used to triple pleat these jackets. The most common is for expansion when people packed on the pounds in the winter and shed them in the summer. Essentially, in today's world, this has become more a workwear fashion statement harkening back to a time when gaining and losing 20 pounds every year to survive was necessary.
The fabric is dyed with pure natural indigo to make the color as close to the original as possible. For the original 1880 jeans, hank dyeing was the common way and the fabric didn't really fade. This is where TCB steps in because you know they love the fade. They dyed the fabric in Rope-dye...so expect those fades. This bad boy is dipped in their natural indigo pool 8 times!

*Fit Notes: The Pleated Jacket is made from a luxuriously hairy lightweight denim that makes this style excellent as a traditional over-shirt alternative. If you love wearing denim jackets all-day, indoors and outdoors this is the garment for you. We find that this trim fitting jacket is best worn with a t-shirt or lightweight flannel beneath. Please pay close attention to our measurements listed in the size chart above. The TCB numbered tag size will more than likely not be the same as what you usually buy. We have provided an alpha sizing letter to best describe how each particular numbered size will fit.
