Over the years we've seen quite a few dobby shirts and fallen in love with them all. The texture combined with their ability to soak in the indigo dye is so alluring to us - mostly for the fading possibilities. They always look stellar from the day you buy them to the day you outgrow them or pass them along to someone else. It's that feeling that a fabric like this gives us and the evolution of the garment that really matters. Iron Heart has done the perfect version of this shirt on a 12oz dobby loom woven cloth with Sashiko thread stitching. Dating back to the 17th century, Sashiko is a traditional form of Japanese folk embroidery used for both decorative and functional reinforcement of fabrics. With a translation meaning “little stabs”, the technique involves a running stitch that creates aesthetically pleasing geometric patterns in a piece of cloth, simultaneously reinforcing the weave for added durability. They've added an extra layer of richness to this already heavily textured and supple fabric by dyeing the warps and wefts differently. The upper layer you see on the face is rope dyed meaning it will fade while the weft layer is both cheese and reactive dyed. The top layer will fade while the underside remains steadfast. This easily makes the IHSH-380 the best dobby cloth shirt we've ever carried.

Fit Notes: Tommy decided to size up to an XL in this piece in order to combat the smaller arms. It worked perfectly! He's typically a North American medium and a large in almost all shirts from Iron Heart. So we would say this one fits smaller in general than a classic work shirt. We always recommend sizing up at least once from this brand, but be sure to scope the size charts before you pull the trigger. Tommy is 5'10," 163lbs with a 40" chest.
