What is James Dant?

An apparel, apothecary and commodity store focused around men's lifestyle. It's really that easy. Everything we create or stock is chosen with the style and needs of a modern man in mind and supports a culture of well-made, long-lasting men's goods. And, we sell a lot of raw denim with origins from throughout the world including the USA, Europe, and Japan!

Who is James Dant?

James Dant is the middle and last name of the owner, Tommy. You'll see him quite often in the pictures. Look for the beard and curly hair. He started the store in 2013 after building a business plan for a men's retail experience as his undergrad Entrepreneur Major thesis.

Where is James Dant?

We are located in Indianapolis, Indiana in the heart of Historic Irvington. The nearest cross streets are E Washington St and Audubon. There is parking lot in the back as well as street parking in the front. 

What are the store hours?

Due partially to a forced hand (we're busy), and partially to sticking to our word (that we were going to use the lessons of the pandemic to change for the better) we are now operating by appointment, permanently.  Our updated hours of availability for these appointments are Monday through Saturday between 11AM and 5PM. Our online appointment scheduler can easily be found on our homepage in the menu or at the bottom of the page where hours are listed (see link below for easy access) please bring your medical grade mask for your safety and the safety of our staff. What forms of payments do you accept?

We accept all major Credit Cards, ApplePay, PayPal Express, Cash, etc..

Can I order a gift card online?

Yes! Gift cards ordered online can be redeemed online and in-store. Once your order is complete you will receive an email with gift card details that can be printed or forwarded to the recipient. See below link for Gift Cards.

How much is shipping?

For international shipments or orders under $250 (exceptions for Alaska) your cart will calculate a shipping price for you based on the weight of your order and delivery address. We offer free economy shipping for orders over $250 ($200 in IN, $300 in AK & HI) which will be the least costly trackable option for us at the time of your purchase.  If you would like to pay extra to expedite your order using a faster shipping method please find these options during the checkout process.

We also reserve the right to put signature confirmation on high priority packages. Generally, packages over $400 will receive this service. If you don't want us to use signature confirmation, please reach out. The voiding of this service is a "buyer beware" scenario. If the package doesn't make it to you, you will have to navigate the remediation process on your own. The signature confirmation is an added cost to us, and we do it on your behalf to ensure you get your high priority package. 

Is your packaging Eco Friendly?

This year, we've partnered with Eco Enclose to ensure that 99.9% of our packaging becomes recyclable. We also choose to pay extra to offset the carbon it takes to get the packaging to us originally. We are hoping to be able to offer you this option in the near future.    When your package arrives, we ask that you recycle as much of the packaging as your state allows. This should include: The Box, The Tissue Paper, The Packing List, and even The Tape. We are currently in the process of moving to 100% non virgin paper packing material that can be used for second use return shipping and further down the line recycled ENTIRELY.

How long until my order arrives?

This entirely depends on the location. If you're in one of the 4 states bordering Indiana, your order will arrive faster. Orders outside that may take longer. You will receive an estimated shipping time when selecting your shipping method. We also no feature a delivery guarantee depending on delivery location. Most orders arrive within 5-7 business days even at the furthest reaches of the US. Orders outside the US vary greatly. If we expect any kind of delay, we'll notify you immediately.

Do you ship internationally?

We do! We occasionally require additional information before shipping your package to ensure successful delivery. Please refer the section at the bottom of this page for best practices when ordering internationally. 

How do your Sales/Promotions work?

Unlike typical big box stores, we rarely do mega-discounts on our product (we value it too much). On occasion, we will mark down items that have seemingly gotten lost or people have lost interest in on the website. As we've grown, that is happening less and less often. Our "Sales Section" will most likely always have some product with discounts. We will also run extra discounts on occasion when we're feeling chipper.

These above-mentioned extra discounts are usually flash sales, meaning they only last for a limited time period. If you're lucky enough to catch one of these, congratulations. If not, there's always next time. **We do not do do retroactive discounts on items purchased outside of the limited flash sale window.** Please refrain from sending emails requesting this, as we do not make exceptions. 

What is your return policy?

Please note all returns must be completed with a post marked date no later than **14 days** after the package arrival date. All SALE ITEMS are Final Sale (meaning no returns or exchanges). We also only offer in-store credits, not refunds to the original form of payment. We understand this is not for everyone, but it is the way we and many others in our industry choose to operate in order to keep the lights on. How do I initiate the exchange process?

In order to start the exchange process, please first email us at info@jamesdant.com. We will respond with 24-hours. From there, we will give you instructions on how to return your package. 

 

What shipping service should I use domestically/internationally? 

Items shipped from James Dant to your location are at the moment they hit transit, your responsibility. We can not guarantee that you will be home when the package arrives, and we also can't require you to set up notifications to ensure the package is received by you and only you. Therefore; any items lost, damaged, or stolen are the responsibility of the receiver. 

There are many routes you can take if you have issues with your package. We suggest you move swiftly and reach out to us when something goes wrong if you don't know the steps to take. In most cases...credit card companies, package insurance, and the service you chose will work with you to make sure you are properly served in the case of a mishandled package. 

At our discretion, we will place signature confirmation on higher priority shipments. If you don't want this service, please let us know. Denying the option for signature confirmation voids James Dant from any and all liability for lost, stolen, or damaged packages. 

International Shipments

The cheapest option for International isn't always the best. For that reason, we recommend you follow these instructions.

USPS will most likely show no tracking once it hits customs. Once it arrives at your door, you will most likely pay no Brokerage Fee but there is a chance they will charge you international taxes. Sometimes, they just deliver the package and it's as simple as that - no fees, no taxes paid. Therefore some people find this the most desirable option, especially to Canada. 

UPS will give you tracking the whole way. They will get it to you on time. They will, however, charge a pretty hefty "brokerage fee" for taking care of the paperwork. So, expect your order 40-45% in brokerage fees and taxes (we know, it's quite insane). If you want to subvert the brokerage fee, you can be your own broker. When they reach out you can ask for the proper paperwork to make this happen. Be sure not to accept them being your broker. Taxes per item will still vary but will be much less than with the fees they charge. We've seen decreases of up to 90% of the original cost. We know it takes a little extra time, but can be very worth it in the end.

DHL, while expensive, is the best option. They get you your package very quickly (usually 1-3 days). We've seen an uptick in taxes an duties charged from this service. You can expect between 30-45% in duties and taxes. If you don't want to pay these, please choose USPS. This option is really only for people who want their package quickly and don't care about the cost. You can follow the advice listed in the UPS section above if you want to "self-clear" your package. James Dant is in no way responsible for Duties, Taxes, or Brokerage fees once the order is placed and the items are in transit unless otherwise agreed upon. If you decide to refuse the package because of any of the aforementioned costs of international shipping, you will not be refunded for your international shipping.
