Samurai

Samurai - "Fujin Raijin" Aloha Shirt - Beige

When we saw this fabric used as a fabric liner, we were over the moon excited. But we couldn't help but think...this fabric will only ever be seen by the wearer - which is fine. But, a little (maybe large) part of us wanted to see this fabric used for something else. We were stunned when we saw it turned into an Aloha shirt, and they honestly couldn't have chosen a better silhouette to represent it. The two figures depicted on the shirt are the gods of "Wind" and "Thunder." It's a gorgeous, smooth sateen fabric that feels so nice against the skin. Theres just the right amount of Samurai branding and all that construction detail you're used to.
Samurai - 15oz Denim Workman's Cap - Indigo.

We couldn't say no to a cap made from Samurai's 15oz Chivalry Selvedge. These do not disappoint in person. Imagine all the denim work caps you've seen from brands over the years with, but with the weightiness and construction you expect from Samurai. These are simply packed with texture and character. The triple button adjustment on the back is also something unlike we've ever seen. And this 15oz denim is known for it's vertical fall, or fading.
Samurai - Twisted Yarn Work Shirt - Natural Indigo.

These twisted yarn fabrics always remind us of salt and pepper. For this the salt is ecru yarns and the pepper is natural indigo twisted together to create this incredible heather appearance. This one includes all those wonderful details we know and love from Samurai. We always have to mention the chain stitch runoff because it's our favorite detail. There's also unevenness in the indigo, a pretty common and sought-after occurrence with natural dyeing. You can expect this fabric to age with you just like a denim shirt. You'll get wear in all the high spots and honeycombs in the elbows...but you'll have to use your imagination to picture just how a heathered fabric will look with those traditional fading patterns. It's all backed by even more indigo, so you'll always have that deep base. Normally, twisted yarn fabrics have to be twisted very tightly, but being that this is a twill they were able to softly twist it exposing more of the warp - this will make the break in process even easier. This shirt is topped off by gorgeous cupped star-pattern metal buttons.
Samurai - 10oz "Samurai Cotton" Denim Work Shirt - Indigo.

We've been so excited to see what the fabric from Samurai's Japanese cotton program will look like, and it doesn't disappoint. This neppy shirt has a look and hand feel you don't expect from a 10oz fabric. You're kind of getting the best of both worlds with a shirt light enough to wear year-round but with all the texture of a heavier-weight shirt. These babies feature all the things we love from Samurai including chain-stitched side seems (with runoffs) and gusseted side vents. Just when you think you've seen every denim shirt under the sun, these guys come along and create what is sure to be a fading legend - one hunted down on the internet for years after the final one sells from our website.

Samurai - 17oz Double Black Denim OW - Slim Straight Fit.

You've seen so many pairs of indigo over the past 12 months from these guys, that we thought it was a nice bit of change to go for a reactive dyed black. This style of dye is meant to hold its color over time. While they will fade eventually, in a more even way overall, these are built for the guys who love black/black denim. It takes a lot of work to get color to release from these babies. The details you're used to from Samurai are all there as they never slack on those. We're talking raised belt loops, hidden back pocket rivets, and those amazing Iron buttons. This pair has a lot of symbolism in each detail which you can see in the bullet points below. This pair is a black uniform wearer's dream- all that quality packed into a pair you can wear with nearly anything.
Samurai - 15oz Sulfur Brown Double Knee Duck Canvas Pants - Straight Fit.

After discovering the Hickory version of these, we couldn't help but to want the duck. Samurai's version of duck canvas is the pinnacle of this fabric. It's simply the best, and when it's hit with a little water...it gets even better. These things are absolutely bonkers. The double knee is a really wicked construction. It has cross hatch stitching similar to quilting. They also have these shallow pockets right above the knee for extra storage. Being a classic work pant, there are of course pockets galore. On top of that, the stitching work is super overconstructed to ensure longevity. Pair that with their signature dual-tone contrast stitching, UFO rivets, printed pocket bags, and custom woven labels and you've got hours of cool things to explore.
Samurai - 17oz Hickory Stripe Indigo OW Painter Work Pants - Wide Straight Fit.

We've seen a million 5-pocket pants, and while those will never go out of style...it's so nice to have new silhouettes. That's what drew us to these painter pants. They're the gorgeous 17oz Indigo Hickory Stripe we're becoming more acquainted with, but in a pant that we don't see quite as often. These have all the potential of the other jeans we've received from Samurai, but with a lot more utility. There are extra pockets, white bar tacks, and hidden rivets. We also love the roomier fit in the leg. It's just how it should be. This heavy-duty 17oz painter's pant is going to serve some of you guys really well!
Samurai - Knit Watch Cap - Black.

The thing that drew us immediately to this watch cap was the union tag. We'd never seen anyone put that ticket on the exterior of a cap. We've always loved the history and beauty of these woven labels, but they're always hidden away. This is a wonderful way to show off that art. On top of that, they're made with Samurai's attention to detail and quality.

Samurai - SCDB22-DC - Duck Canvas Messenger Bag - Brown.

We can't help ourselves with Samurai accessories. If we see it, and it's too good to pass up...we snag it. These messenger bags have been one of our favorite things to pick up from Japanese brands because it always seems like we're reaching for a carry-all when we head out the door. Ultimately, if you're going to grab a tote when leaving the house, why not make it one made with all the wonderful construction details from Samurai.

Samurai - 17oz - "Zero" Bushido Painter Work Pants - Wide Straight Fit.

We've seen a million 5-pocket pants, and while those will never go out of style...it's so nice to have new silhouettes. That's what drew us to these painter pants. They're the gorgeous 17oz "Zero" selvedge we're becoming more acquainted with, but in a pant that we don't see quite as often. These have all the potential of the other jeans we've received from Samurai, but with a lot more utility. There are extra pockets, red bar tacks, and just the right amount of leg twist. We also love the roomier fit in the leg. It's just how it should be. This heavy-duty 17oz painter's pant is going to serve some of you guys really well!
Samurai - Rope Dyed Flannel Shirt - Indigo, White.

Last year we kicked our own asses up and down the block for not yet having Samurai in our brand offerings...specifically because of their heavy-duty rope dyed flannel shirts. This is a piece that any flannel lover will instantly see the beauty in. This time, the white base is contrasted by the rich indigo blocking and red stripes. This pattern has an almost fuzzy television set characteristic to it, especially when you get right up on the fabric. It's got character out the wazoo. Not to mention, all those Samurai construction details that have come to be known as industry standards for quality. We're talking chain stitch side seams, gusseted vents, triple-needle stitching, and other custom tag work throughout...including the hidden union tag on the interior placket.
Samurai - Rope Dyed Flannel Shirt - Indigo, Green.

Last year we kicked our own asses up and down the block for not yet having Samurai in our brand offerings...specifically because of their heavy-duty rope dyed flannel shirts. This is a piece that any flannel lover will instantly see the beauty in. The deepness of the indigo is contrasted with the rich tones of green and bright yellow. This is like an elevated (better) Blackwatch plaid with an electric shot of color. It's got character out the wazoo. Not to mention, all those Samurai construction details that have come to be known as industry standards for quality. We're talking chain stitch side seams, gusseted vents, triple-needle stitching, and other custom tag work throughout...including the hidden union tag on the interior placket.
Samurai - Rope Dyed Flannel Shirt - Indigo, Red.

Last year we kicked our own asses up and down the block for not yet having Samurai in our brand offerings...specifically because of their heavy-duty rope dyed flannel shirts. This is a piece that any flannel lover will instantly see the beauty in. The deepness of the indigo is contrasted with the lightness of the red and light blue. It's got character out the wazoo. Not to mention, all those Samurai construction details that have come to be known as industry standards for quality. We're talking chain stitch side seams, gusseted vents, triple-needle stitching, and other custom tag work throughout...including the hidden union tag on the interior placket.
Samurai - Heavy Oxford Work Pants Slim Straight Tapered - Green O/W.

The first thing that drew us to these pants was the color. We have a really big affinity to this shade of green. We also can't avoid the iconic look and feel of this pant. Although it's a work pant, these could very easily become the newest trouser for work. The heavy oxford fabric makes for an incredible drape on this slim straight taper. This is a very straight forward pant. We decided to shoot it in two different sizes to show just how versatile it is. Everyone should have a pair of work pants, and to us...these are the best of the best.
Samurai - Duck Canvas Heavy Jacket - Brown O/W.

This is a heavy-duty 91-B style jacket built from a 15oz duck selvedge canvas. This fabric comes alive when you wash it. The crunchy, wrinkled nature only adds to the character of the jacket for us. We both sat back and had to really analyze this piece during the photoshoot. It's built with utility pockets at the waist and a single-slanted zipper pocket at the chest. The zipper is a Waldes chain zipper that really accentuates that pocket. To top it all off, they've finished this baby with triple-needle stitching. The over-construction for which Samurai is known continues on this absolutely stunning jacket.
Samurai - 17oz "Zero" Selvedge Denim Jeans - Straight Fit O/W.

The "Zero" fabric has been on our radar from the beginning. It's one of, if not the most famous Samurai denim. This is the original 5-button edition. They love this one so much, they send out stickers and pins to commemorate it. This fabric was first introduced in 2004 after a long development period. It broke many looms and many needles along the way. It is their tried and true. They've used an uneven No. 5 yarn for both the warp and weft for maximum fading potential. These things have a sh*tton of character. They finished it off with the gold and red selvedge ticker. We can not wait to see these fade.
Samurai - 17oz "Zero" Selvedge Denim Jeans - Regular Straight O/W.

The "Zero" fabric has been on our radar from the beginning. It's one of, if not the most famous Samurai denim. Well, this round they've done it with the zipper - another thing not often seen from Samurai. This is no ordinary zipper, it's a Scoville "Gripper" zipper. This fabric was first introduced in 2004 after a long development period. It is their tried and true. They've used an uneven No. 5 yarn for both the warp and weft for maximum fading potential. They finished it off with the gold and red selvedge ticker.
Samurai - 15oz Heavy Chino Pants Olive - Semi-Slim Straight Fit.

You already know if Samurai produces anything, they're not playing around. So would they do a chino any lighter than 15oz? Most likely not. These things are bonkers. They honestly might as well be a pair of olive selvedge denim, but they have a chino cut. The metallic silver Lamé selvedge line will make them feel even more so like your favorite pair of jeans. These might be unsanforized, but they've had a factory wash to alleviate almost all of that shrinkage. We simply had to see what a Chino from Samurai would look like, and we weren't disappointed. We absolutely love the fabric and we're enamored with the looser, super comfy fit. This is a wardrobe starter for guys looking to get out of their super tight selvedge denim.
Samurai - 15oz Otokogi Selvedge Denim Jeans - Regular Straight O/W.

How could we say no to these jeans? They have custom hardware designed to pay homage to jeans from the 1940s/50s. Their Otokogi denim is 100% Texas cotton known for its rough texture and impeccable vintage fading qualities. It's a short fibre cotton that creates the rough texture you see. Normally, those fibers are removed to make the cotton smooth, but Samarui adds more to ramp it up even more. They've also used 100% Texas cotton sewing throughout, something we rarely see these days. This denim is for the purist at heart. As the denim is spun at a high tension, even post soak/wash they will become even more stiff (luckily they're only 15oz to start, and not 25). This will result in some of the best fading denim on the planet.
Samurai - SSS22 - Distressed "Shuriken" Wabash Stripe Shirt - Indigo x Black.

We are absolutely blown back by this fabric. For one, it's not your traditional wabash stripe. They've used throwing stars for the pattern - an incredible idea. To us, the raw fabric is pretty contrasting up front. It can be hard to imagine how it will age. But luckily, they've done that for us and we think it takes the perfect amount of sting out of that contrast. It makes this shirt perfect for comfort and aesthetics up front. That's all not to mention that it's an indigo x black denim. That's what gives this shirt is beautiful, deep, shadowy indigo color. And if you look on the inside, you'll notice the fabric is a few shades darker...so when you roll up your cuffs you get to see that wonderful character. This shirt is simply stunning. We're so glad we brought it to the shop.
Samurai - SJCBS22 - Selvedge Chambray Shirt - Green.

We'll admit it, most chambrays look the same. But not this baby. This is a particularly unique and texturally satisfying version of the classic chambray. We're particularly happy with the mismatched pockets. The one on the left with the pen slot is very fun. You're also gonna see selvedge in the gussets, as it should be and that ever-coveted triple needle chain stitch run-offs. Like everything Samurai does, these are crafted to perfection. They feature hardy over construction that will see the shirt lasting much, much longer than your average chambray.

Samurai - 17oz Bushido Selvedge Denim Jeans - Slim Tapered O/W.

The first thing that drew us in on this pair was the neppy nature of the 17oz Bushido denim. You'll notice so much texture in the close-ups that we simply can't get over. Also, this is the first pair of slim tapered we've had from Samurai. These are built for the guys who like a slimmer look and want a ton of texture. We truly believe a one-wash treatment brings all of Samurai's incredible proprietary fabrics to life, so we're gonna stick with it. It knocks the edge off and brings out the nep in this fabric to create one of the most gorgeous pairs we've ever laid eyes on.
Samurai - "Year of the Tiger" Selvedge Jeans - Middle Straight O/W.

We were beyond excited to see the "Year of the Tiger" selvedge. The first thing that grabbed our attention was those yellow-coated "Matsunoki" buttons. It's unlike anything we've come across in 10 years of business. Those alone would be enough to get us interested, but you know they don't stop there. They've chosen their infamous 17oz "Zero" fabric developed in 2004. This fabric is so filled with texture that it took an extended time to develop, so you know they spent their time getting it right. There are so many details to discover throughout this pair but pay close attention to those pocket bags. These are going to easily become your favorite pair every time you get your eyes on those yellow-coated buttons.
Samurai - 15oz Heavy Chino Pants Khaki - Regular Straight Fit.

You already know if Samurai produces anything, they're not playing around. So would they do a chino any lighter than 15oz? Most likely not. These things are bonkers. They honestly might as well be a pair of brown selvedge denim, but they have a chino cut. Samurai - 18oz Ecru Selvedge Jeans - Slim Tapered.

We've had our run-ins with Ecru selvedge in the past, but never like this. It's incredible to see a seedy fabric like this come to life after a wash. It has so much texture and slubbiness, the thing you all know Samurai for...but the water takes that cotton to the next level. Also, it's 18oz which is simply incredible. It's by far the heaviest ecru we've ever been able to get our hands on. It does have a fluffy feel to it though which is most likely due to that fabled "Homemade" cotton blend weft. The flecky seeds throughout let you know you're dealing with a natural cotton. On top of that, they matched the selvedge ID converting it to brown for this round. We really think these are going to be something special for all those Samurai heads out there. You can expect all the other details you know and love from the brand.

Samurai - 17oz - Denim Aviator's Cap - Hickory.

We couldn't say no to a cap made from Samurai's to start, especially the 17oz Hickory Stripe. They're still pretty hefty though. These do not disappoint in person. Imagine all the denim caps you've seen from brands over the years with, but with the weightiness and construction you expect from Samurai. These are simply packed with character and in a style that almost anyone can wear.
Samurai - 15oz - Denim Aviator's Cap - Indigo.

We couldn't say no to a cap made from Samurai's to start, but if 17oz is too heavy for ya...and you're more of a baseball cap kind of guy...the Aviator cap might just be for you in the 15oz weight. They're still pretty hefty though. These do not disappoint in person. Imagine all the denim work caps you've seen from brands over the years with, but with the weightiness and construction you expect from Samurai. These are simply packed with texture and character that you can expect to fade as well as your favorite pair of jeans.

Samurai - SSS22-KRS-OVS - Natural Indigo Kasuri Shirt - Shima.

This shirt is a perfect example of Samurai's commitment to their shirting. It's the same commitment to fabrics and construction detail they give to their denim. This one is a natural indigo kasuri seersucker fabric. What a mouthful. On top of that, the Kasuri fabric is made using the ancient technique of Kase dyeing. This process involves a pre-wet process that opens the fibers to the indigo bath it will be receiving for the next 48 hours - natural indigo at that. The process is repeated several times and at the end, the fabric is steamed to lock in the color. Due to the process being more natural, way more of the naturally occurring texture in the fabric remains after everything is said and done. They then weave the fabric into this incredible seersucker. The process also leaves the fabric more streaky so you have variation of vertical indigo saturations throughout the already more prominent vertical stripes. They gave it some triple needle runoffs and a gorgeous tagua nut button to finish making this piece one of the most beautiful things we've ever laid eyes on.
Samurai - SSA22-HT - One-Hundred Tiger S/S Shirt - Black.

Samurai's homage to the "Year of the Tiger" is pretty on the nose - it's a bunch of tigers. This custom print is a bonkers play on the traditional Japanese Hawaiian tiger shirts. It's got this trippy vertical diamond stripe running throughout that makes the animals feel even more camouflaged. And, they went ahead and blended a special Samurai symbol on the back of one of the angriest tigers. The artwork is so incredible. The design is fairly straightforward with the open collar and left welt pocket, but the construction is on its typical 1000% standard. The buttons with maroon stitching and cherry-like finish are the icing on this tiger cake.
Samurai - 25oz Limited Edition Saigoku-Musou Model - Straight Fit O/W.

This is the SS22 pair we've been waiting for from Samurai. This is the seasonal special edition built around a Samurai in history. This round is dedicated to Tachibana Muneshige (December 18, 1567 - November 15, 1643). This was during th Azuchi-Momoyama period and the Edo-period daimyō. He was considered the best samurai (Musou) in West Japan (Saigoku). Being one of the most famous samurais from Western Japan, he didn't believe in the concept of an "honorable death" in war. He was known for his military capabilities and loyalty to his land and strived to live during ware, vs dying honorably. Believing that people have the power to govern their own fate, Muneshige desires to act without bending to the era's whims and be as free as the wind.
That's all to be said to set the background without even talking about the incredible details used to honor this Samurai. To people who know Samurai, they've come to expect all the intricacies that make them who they are. We get to spend each new arrival combing over the details of these pants, and let me tell you...we simply don't see anyone doing it better. From the shiny gold buttons to the cowhide leather patch and all the way down to the gold/silver intertwined ticker, they don't put a foot wrong. Our favorite detail has to be one that is reserved for the wearer - the pocket bags. This special edition, the proprietary fabric is a rich brown base with a portrayal of enemies battling. It feels like a tapestry on the interior of your pants and will make slipping them on that much better every time.
Samurai - 17oz Hickory Double Knee Work Pants - Straight Fit.

We must admit, we had a little snafu on these and they didn't make it onto the order sheet. However, the lovely people at Samurai were able to accommodate a limited run of these work pants, and we're forever grateful.
