Camp Shirt - Navy Handloom HBT
3Sixteen - Camp Shirt - Navy Handloom HBT.
This loosely woven Herringbone Twill fabric is next-level comfort. It's built to wear like a camp shirt but for us is easily stylable as an overshirt. It is also built to wear on warmer days. While the fabric has weight to it, the rinse and weave of the herringbone give it this airy, bouncy nature that clearly puts it in the category of vacation or loungewear. You can also dress it up easily for a nice dinner. One of the things we love about this piece is that the herringbone doesn't scream at you. It's more of a texture, than a pattern. You have to look closely to see the zigs and zags. This is easily one of the most versatile pieces of the season based on its ability to mix and match with every other piece in the lineup.

Crosscut Flannel - Mauve Slub
3Sixteen - Crosscut Flannel - Mauve Slub.
We're so used to seeing heavyweight Crosscut Flannels that we were quite blown back by the Spring Summer iteration. They've dropped the weight down to a manageable one for the 70° days. They're super comfy up front but still packed with texture due to the slub yarns they used for this production run. You'll notice the signature cross-back yolk and enamel buttons to accentuate the real star of this show - the fabric. Now comes the tough choice...slate or mauve?

Hawaiian Shirt - Slate Check
Freenote - Hawaiian Shirt - Mustard Check.
We start to feel the excitement bubbling up every Spring when Freenote releases their Hawaiians. We were lucky enough to be able to get some check shirts from the guys out west. We think these bridge the gap between heritage and contemporary stellarly. They're lightweight broad cloth cotton with all their signature styling details. We're really struggling to choose between colors on these, as they're both good for different reasons. We couldn't think of a better way to kick off Spring 2023 than with the launch of a couple of Hawaiians from Freenote.

Maru Sankaku Peke SDA - Kung Fu Shirt- Indigo Used Wash.
Maru Sankaku Peke is definitely the outward fringes of heritage. They push the limits, and we like that. This piece is a bit more traditional, being a "Kung Fu" shirt, but we rarely see them in our industry. It might in fact be the tamest of their lineup. The craziest part is that these guys don't give us much information at all. Maru Sankaku Peke is fairly secretive, and extremely hard to find but also has great social media. What we do know is it's a lightweight chambray with monkey fist knot closures. It's a little more heavily washed than its jacket counterpart, which we really dig. We also know it's made in Japan by super creative people. We're enamored with this piece and hope you are too.

Naked & Famous - Lightweight Recycled Selvedge Stone Blue - Denim Jacket.
We ordered the initial round of Recycled Selvedge in the heavier weight fabric and instantly regretted not ordering more. This unique color is rarely seen in the world of raw denim so the reaction was strong. This year, we haven't made that same mistake. And they've made quite a wonderful update to the fabric. One of the big complaints we got is that people wanted to be able to wear the old version all Summer long, but they were too heavy. These babies weigh in at a firm but breathable 11oz. They also use 100% recycled bits from old denim. It is compiled, chopped up, and turned into yarn. From there they weave it into the selvedge denim you see before you. The beauty in this sustainable pair is that it will fade! It's so light because it's blended up bits of warp and weft creating almost a chalky blue color...but there is indigo in there that's going to make these feel even more vintage-like with time. We are big suckers for the recycled leather patch and we can't deny a faded pink selvedge ticker.

Warehouse & Co. - Lot 2001XX - Type I Jacket W/Blanket Liner - Indigo.
In recent times, the concept of vintage clothing has evolved. What was once considered special during the vintage boom of the 1970s is now considered a thing of the past in the 2020s. With the passage of time, the availability of old items has been steadily decreasing, and items made before the 1950s are now becoming rare and precious. This is precisely why it is important for Warehouse to "perfectly reproduce" vintage rare items so that the fact that such rare items existed in the past can be passed on to future generations.
The jacket being introduced is one such rare item. It is a model with a liner, which was only manufactured for a very short time. The actual jacket being reproduced has a T-shaped split back and a faded pocket tag. Denim jackets with liners have been historically made by other companies since the 1930s. At that time, Avondale's blankets boasted a high wool blend, but the shrinkage rate was a problem, so they were made into a plush material without sewing. Later on, manufacturers known for Troy blankets began blending wool, cotton, and rayon, and then synthetic materials were used, and the sewing specifications changed.
The blanket liner of the 1st model being released this time is made of 82% wool and 18% cotton, taking into account the color and feel of the denim as well as the balance of fading, while also keeping in mind the deadstock blue denim. This rare jacket model was obtained and thoroughly analyzed. By researching the historical background of how they were made, Warehouse was able to achieve a "repro" that still retains the atmosphere of the time. They hope that customers will appreciate this rare model and feel the thoughts of the creator by holding it in their own hands.

Warehouse & Co. - One-Wash Flannel W/Chinstrap Pattern 'G' - Green.
Warehouse & Co. has very quickly become one of our top-selling import brands for a reason. Their attention to detail and dedication to traditional construction is beyond the pale of comparison. We find ourselves diving into things like why they chose the style of tag or how one seam is built compared to another. That is the joy of this brand for us. Seeing conscious decision making in the flesh from one of the best brands to do it in Japan since 1995.
The Lot 3022 Flannel is a heavyweight selvedge fabric with all the details from Warehouse you're starting to know. The one-wash really makes these things fluff up. They also have the short double-needle runoff. You're also going to see a double-button chinstrap under the collar. We are blown back by this color combo. In all the years of flanneling at the shop, we've never seen anything quite like this. It's both nostalgic and futuristic. The black and kelly green combo is definitely out of this world.

orSlow - Trooper Fatigue Shirt Ripstop - Army
Pleased is an understatement when it comes to the fact that we're working with orSlow. They've been on our brand "bucket list" for a while, so when we had a chance to see the line live in New York a few years back...we knew it was only a matter of time. The brand is everything we love - vintage-inspired designs with a modern branding approach and quality at the forefront of their ethos. It's all in the name, as they're the antidote to modern fast fashion...they do things slowly!
This is being affectionately referred to as "that new cool top" at the shop. It takes the fabric we love from the cargos and makes it into a roomy-fitting, fashion-forward fatigue shirt/jacket. It, like most of orSlow's designs, is based on a military garment. This one, more specifically, is a Trooper shirt from the 1960s. It can be worn buttoned as a shirt or open as more of layering or final piece to an outfit. It has roomier arms and no cuffs which lends to wearing it over the top of other garments. We love cotton ripstop for its upfront appeal, but we've also been privy to the way it ages - which is gorgeous by the way.

Jepson Sashiko Plaid - Indigo
Freenote - Jepson Sashiko Plaid - Indigo.
The Jepson is a known staple at this point, but their ability to make it look new with every release is pretty astonishing. We said that last time but they've done it again. A mix of sashiko and plaid is almost too much to handle. It's a classic 2 pocket shirt that can be worn with almost anything. It has so many layers to explore right now, and even more, will expose its true nature once the indigo starts to fade. This baby is a standalone piece that doesn't really need other layers to make it pop.

Indigofera - The Webster Check Flannel - Blue, Gold, Brown, Black.
We've always liked the Webster, but never as much as this. They seem to one up it every year, an this blue/gold combo is crazy good (it reminds us of one of our best selling crazy check flannels of the past). The Webster is a classic board shirt style with a flat-cut hem and slits at the side. You're also looking at two chest pockets and cats eye buttons. The flannel has a nice hardy texture all around with it not being brushed. It's quite a nice low-tension weave feel with a crunchy cotton feeling. This thing is another in the long line of brilliant pieces produced by Indigofera this season.

Indigofera - Norris Buffalo Plaid - Brown, Dark Brown, Black.
This is the first time we've seen a tri-coloured Norris, and we're super impressed. Who knew a blend of browns could look this sexy. The Norris might just be the perfect flannel. It has a heft and structure we've only seen thus far from selvedge twill. The construction on the seams and throughout the piece is that Indigofera standard you know and love. What's so unique about this piece is the fabric - selvedge in its most fluffy, beautiful form. They really started the break-in process by hitting it with a single rinse.

We will never skip a Norris in the Indigo series. They fade too well. It has all the things that makes a store like us tick. The Norris might just be the perfect flannel. Studio D'Artisan - "Amami Dorozome" Heavyweight Check Flannel Shirt - Brown.
The last time we saw this flannel it was dyed with Kakishibu. We didn't think that could be topped, but you know how much we love mud. Amami Dorozome is an age-old process done on the island of Amami-Oshima in Japan. It's a blend of mud and vegetable oil that creates rich earth tones in a washed-out, well-worn pigment only achievable through this process. In a traditional cotton check pattern such as this, it shines its brightest. We didn't get our hands on this personally last time, but we aren't going to let this one slip through our fingers.

Iron Heart - 13oz Military Serge Western Shirt - Brown.
The only thing that could've improved this serge western was a new color. This one was originally called Mocha Brown, which we think is very suitable. It's this rich color that suits this now iconic shirt. It used to be that we rarely saw green from Iron Heart, but now green is a staple. So, we've been super stoked to see khakis and browns rearing their pretty heads. You can't go wrong with the western cut, unless you don't size up, as it has some absolutely gorgeous details. We love the yokes and Permex buttons the most on these beauties.

Naked & Famous - 16oz - MIJ10 Okayama Spirit - Denim Jacket.
If we had to stop carrying all other denim from Naked & Famous and be left with a lone survivor, this would be it. We absolutely adore the MIJ series. It's everything we want in a pair. This year is especially mouthwateringly good as it's their 10th iteration. They've brought back a denim people have been on the hunt for, for a decade. Since 2013 people have talked about this denim for a damn good reason. It's Japanese denim at its finest. It is the original Okayama Spirit Selvedge brought back to life, but completely made in Japan with all the bells and whistles. The verdict is no longer out. People are already breaking these in, and they're the best thing N&F has produced in years.
The Okayama Spirit is a 16oz unsanforized slubby Japanese selvedge denim that is dyed using the indigo rope dyeing process. In this process, cotton yarns are repeatedly run through vats of indigo dye, but not long enough for the dye to fully penetrate the yarn core. This creates a unique pattern in the fabric as thicker sections of the yarn absorb more indigo and thinner sections absorb less. The yarns themselves also have an irregular, slubby texture which adds to the overall texture of the fabric. To further enhance the texture, the denim is slowly woven on vintage shuttle looms, which creates a wavy weave pattern when viewed up close. The combination of the irregular slubby yarns and the loose weaving of the fabric gives it an organic, uneven grain that is signature of the Okayama Spirit's iconic textured look.
To preserve the hairiness, grittiness, and raw denim feel of this unsanforized denim, the MIJ10 undergoes a tempi treatment which shrinks the fabric while maintaining its texture. This removes the guesswork from sizing and allows you to get the correct size from the start. The MIJ10 also features a range of finishing touches that add to its character and appeal. These include 100% iron buttons that will rust, copper rivets that will oxidize, a Japanese sheepskin leather patch with the "Flower of Carnage" logo, a selvedge closure placket. The jacket also features a maple leaf embroidered onto the chest pocket, a signature of the MIJ series.
The MIJ10 is made in Japan from start to finish, ensuring its high quality. The expert craftsmanship that goes into each pair is evident in the attention to detail and care taken at every stage of the production process, from the dyeing of the yarn, weaving of the fabric, to the cutting and sewing of the denim.

Merz b. Schwanen - 8.6oz Loopwheeled Henley Vintage Washed Oversized Fit - Oat.
Merz has been on our list for quite some time. Can you believe they've been around for 111 years? That's currently our oldest brand! They've stuck around because they do something quite incredible with basics. They stand behind the idea that basics can be something to get excited about. So they create the best and put their iconic branding on just the tags. We're so happy to introduce this German line to our store. In the same way we correlate Japanese production to meticulous attention to detail, we correlate German production to impeccable engineering. We hope you love these super-engineered basics!
Vintage times two! While fabric made on their original loopwheelers in Germany itself has a unique vintage feel, Merz takes it even a step further! How? These authentically made pieces have undergone a special pigment dying process: thanks to this particular treatment, these pieces receive an exceptional vintage optic.
Their henleys have the best buttons and clock in at a weight that is just heavy enough to let you know it's there, but not something you have to think about before you slip it on in the morning. These have the wonderful aesthetic of a visible horizontal loopwheeled line throughout. It's super subtle, so you'll have to look closely. They're so soft that these feel like a henley you've been wearing for years. The vintage wash tends to do that!

Warehouse & Co. - Lot 3104 - One-Wash Flannel 'B' Pattern - Navy.
Seeing conscious decision-making in the flesh from one of the best brands to do it in Japan since 1995.
The Lot 3104 Flannel is a heavyweight selvedge fabric with tons of wonderful details. The 'b' pattern is a buffalo check with thin stripes woven throughout that make it pop like crazy. The one-wash really makes these things fluff up, as well. They have the short double-needle runoff and there's so much slubby texture in this piece that you can really only see up close. The 'B' Pattern has always had a special place in our hearts, and this navy piece exemplifies it. It's stunning...absolutely stunning in person. The colors flow like paint on a canvas.

Field Shirt - Gold Plaid
RGT - Field Shirt - Gold Plaid.
The Field Shirt is becoming a familiar friend. This round is a pleasant little start to the year. The Gold is the wildcard this round, but also the one we expect to draw the most attention. Anytime you bring yellow into the mix, you're going to get a ton of looks. The gold dominates the piece while also allowing the navy and white pinstripe to play their role. This color is easily our favorite of the three, but we've been proven wrong in the past! We think the entire round of plaids are gonna make it hard to choose. These have also brushed the back of this baby and it has almost a corded or kersey interior that is unique to this Japanese fabric. The colors are just perfect. This baby has all the RGT standbys - triple needle runoffs, urea buttons, and the pen slot. It's a gorgeous piece we're thankful to have in the shop.

Field Shirt - Olive Plaid
RGT - Field Shirt - Olive Plaid.
The Field Shirt is becoming a familiar friend. This round is a pleasant little start to the year. The olive is unique and familiar. The colors instantly bring you to a place of fall/winter bliss. It has this incredible mix of colors that have been saturated a little more than they normally are. The olive is more yellow like a true OD green than that forest color you normally see with brown. The white pinstripe running throughout is the highlight to bring all the colors to life. And the blue is the kicker you don't expect. RGT - Field Shirt - Red Herringbone Plaid.
The Field Shirt is becoming a familiar friend. This round is a pleasant little start to the year. The red has to be the most vibrant of the lot and feels like a nice play on the most classic red/black buffalo plaid you know and love. The herringbone is a texture overload that gets deeper and deeper the more you look at it. The HB plaids always have a little bit more structured feel to the fabric. They're soft, but not heavily brushed so they have a killer structured drape. This baby has all the RGT standbys - triple needle runoffs, urea buttons, and the pen slot. Benson Buffalo Plaid - Olive
Freenote - Benson Buffalo Plaid - Olive.
We've been in love with the Benson since its launch. This limited edition buffalo plaid takes it to another level. We really dig the texture on this one. It has a nice hardy twill that shows up vertically in the texture. Not quite a kersey, but a nice little add to the overall piece. We've seen lots of buffalo plaids, but this one has a specific uniqueness. They've blown up the pattern to make it look a little more abstract.

Indigofera - Dawson Check Flannel - Black, Petrol, Rust
There's no question about it...this is the standout piece of the season from Indigofera. It just so happens that is the one that stands above the rest every season. This year's color combo is bonkers. You can't go wrong with orange and blue, and then when you make the base layer black...it's a no brainer. This is truly a special flannel that stands out even among special flannels. The black pearl snaps are like staring into the abyss. They're absolutely gorgeous. And lastly, this cotton is a selvedge. We don't know what more we could ask for. This might be perfect.

Samurai - Rope Dyed Flannel Shirt - Indigo, White.
Last year we kicked our own asses up and down the block for not yet having Samurai in our brand offerings...specifically because of their heavy-duty rope dyed flannel shirts. This is a piece that any flannel lover will instantly see the beauty in. This time, the white base is contrasted by the rich indigo blocking and red stripes. This pattern has an almost fuzzy television set characteristic to it, especially when you get right up on the fabric. It's got character out the wazoo. Not to mention, all those Samurai construction details that have come to be known as industry standards for quality. We're talking chain stitch side seams, gusseted vents, triple-needle stitching, and other custom tag work throughout...including the hidden union tag on the interior placket.

Studio D'Artisan - "Tasogare" Heavyweight Flannel Shirt - Indigo O/W.
Studio D'Artisan has a look. We may not be able to describe it in words, but you know it when you see it! This season, they surprised us. We did not expect to see this type of shirt from them, and for us...that makes it an easy piece for the shop. This is a proprietary Nell Check flannel fabric that's hardy enough to stand up to any of the Pacific Northwest heritage brands. It has this gorgeous indigo rope-dyed fabric that they've labeled "Tasogare" which is derived from the phrase "Who is that?". Since this phrase was used at dusk when it was nearly impossible to recognize someone's face, it soon became related to the color of the night sky. It's a stepped-up, or grown-up version of the classic red buffalo check shirt. But the beautiful part about this version is its cotton! Usually, they're itchy and impossible to wear close to the skin. Not this baby. It's super versatile.

Warehouse & Co. - Lot 3104 - One-Wash Flannel 'E' Pattern - Navy.
Seeing conscious decision-making in the flesh from one of the best brands to do it in Japan since 1995.
The Lot 3104 Flannel is a heavyweight selvedge fabric with tons of wonderful details. The 'E' pattern is a traditional large gingham pattern that reads like a tablecloth. It's one we've all seen, but we definitely have never seen these colors in combination. They have the short double-needle runoff and there's so much slubby texture in this piece that you can really only see up close. The brushing also makes these flannels super soft on top of the one-wash treatment that takes out a lot of that volatility. This is the one that made us stop and say wow this season. We've seen a million flannels, but this one is truly something special.
