Crosscut Flannel - Rust Twill Plaid
3Sixteen - Crosscut Flannel - Rust Twill Plaid.
This Crosscut has all that heavy texture goodness for which the shirt is known. It's a chunky twill with the enamel-coated buttons you all know and love. And, it's a gorgeous Rust color that shoots a bit of saturation into an otherwise desaturated lineup for FW23. Still though, this shirt has a softness from the brushing process that we've come to appreciate. The day of the stiff, crunchy flannel has come to an end, at least for now. Cozy is in, but without losing the hardiness this thing cut its teeth on.

orSlow - Pocket T-Shirt - White.
We figured it was due time to bring in some tees from our fan-favorite brand. Our thinking was that if they make pants and shirts and sweats so well, the tee shirts must be impeccable. Well, they are. We love the loose, boxy fit of this tee more than we expected. And the little embroidery of the islands of Japan at the yoke is fantastic. The jersey fabric is heavy without being a "heavyweight" tee. It's a jersey with just enough weight that you can feel it but not so much that it feels like a task to put it on. This and the roomier cut give it nice breathability. If you're an orSlow stan like we are at the shop, you're gonna need one of these puppies.

Field Shirt Plaid - Desert Sky
RGT - Field Shirt Plaid - Desert Sky.
It's a great time of year to be a plaid, especially in a lightweight 7oz option. There will be a time for heavy flannels, but right now this weight lands in the perfect range. It's soft and comfy, but not too heavy or hot which makes it perfect for layering. We can't say enough about the variegated patterns. What seems like a gorgeous flannel from the outside gets even more beautiful when you zoom in. Layers of yarn (usually in packs of 3) are twisted together to create a fabric that has incredible depth. Pair that with their lovable Field shirt, and you've got an early fall masterpiece. You'll see all of the details listed below on this Desert Sky flannel.

BM Shirt Plaid - Gold Ombre
RGT - BM Shirt Plaid - Gold Ombré.
Sometimes, a shirt is so good you have to bring it back a couple of years later. This variegated plaid has a mix of colors twisted together in the yarn to create a greater depth. in the fabric. The BM shirt is one of our favorite silhouettes, and we haven't seen it in ages. We can't think of a better reintroduction than this iconic color combo. It of course has all those signature BM details including the open-style pockets with the pen slot and the chain stitch runoffs. We also always love those black urea buttons. But like we said, the real star of the show is the fabric. It's a lightweight 7oz brushed flannel that packs one hell of a punch.

Iron Heart - Ultra Heavy Flannel Tartan Check Work Shirt - Blue.
It's UHF season. We look forward to this time of year every season. We know each time a production is completed, we're going to be surprised by an even better product than we could imagine the moment we open the box. The details never fail. The construction never fails. But no matter how much we understand what's coming, the heavy yet fluffy nature of this fabric knocks us off our feet. It feels like chick fluff.
The Tartan fabrics always have a hold on us as some of our favorites of the season, and we just so happened to get this one first thing for FW23. It's a rich hue of blue we've yet to see from IH, and that's what we liked so much about it. The saturation is off the charts with this puppy. In a season full of muted colors and earth tones, this is that real pop you need to wake up your wardrobe. The secondary colors on this one blend really well and contrast without being too over the top. We were really surprised by just how gorgeous this fabric was when it arrived.

Crissman Overshirt - Burnt Orange
Dehen - Crissman Overshirt - Burnt Orange.
The Crissman has been a shop staple for a few years now, as it should be. It's one of the greatest overshirts in the game. The hand waremer pockets and extra buttons give it a marine feel that we can't get enough of. They've partially lined it with their signature yellow canvas twill. They've also reinforced the elbows for extra strength. The last time we had a wool this special, it was gone before we could even tell people about it. We don't see wool that often in the Crissman, and this time they've come out swinging with a color that screams Fall. It's the same Melton wool they use for their Varsity Jackets and Car Coats, so you know it's a hardy and warm layer.

Iron Heart - 16oz Non-Selvedge Denim CPO Shirt - Superblack (Fades To Grey).
If just one thing has been true over the last 12 months, it's that people are interested in the Superblack (Fades to Grey) denim. This thing is beefy. It's built to be a shirt jacket CPO style shirt, but make no mistake...you will wear this as a jacket. It's so sturdy and so saturated with black on both sides. The top side is a rope dye, meaning it will fade just like indigo. The weft is set with a reactive dye that won't fade giving this piece a unique fading capability people have come to know and love. And, we can't forget about the most important part - the CPO has handwarmer pockets.

3Sixteen - Open Collar Shirt Handloom Silk - Travertine.
This is the first time we've seen silk from our friends at 3sixteen. Their move to India has allowed them to produce mind-boggling fabrics season after season. The geological-looking horizontal pattern in the silk weave is easy for anyone to love. It activates something in our alien brains that says cozy. And, it's all done by hand with raw silk creating that streaky, slubby effect that looks a bit like marble. Our favorite part of these shirts has to be the scooped scalloped buttons, and that's saying a lot seeing that this fabric is so luxurious. The mother of pearl grabs your attention, and then you start to see that the enter of the button is scooped out to leave the ends higher. They're kind of like mini half pipes if that simile helps at all. This is the start to a wonderful Fall of unique fabrics and easy-to-wear earth-tone colors - all part of the 3sixteen 20th Anniversary celebration.

3Sixteen - Crosscut Flannel Jacquard - Alabaster.
We think the thing that got us so excited about this fabric was that it was unlike any other crosscut yet to be released. They're normally a hardy, starchy fabric that suits denim perfectly. Well, this is definitely not that. It is incredibly soft in woven in this kind of chaotic, loose pattern that lays super nicely on the skin. That uneven character gives the fabric a texture like a sashiko shirt. You've got the classic enamel-coated buttons, and the signature cross back yoke, but other than that these are nothing like the crosscuts you've seen in the past. The fabric makes them feel more like a cozy travel shirt. While these don't have an open collar, you could easily see them having one when you feel the fabric. They just feel comfy and give off incredible vibes all while having the silhouette of the crosscut flannel.

Studio D'Artisan - "100 Pigs" "Kurozome" Jacquard Aloha Shirt - Black.
You know we're a sucker for a good Aloha shirt. The original iterations of this shirt were printed, but this baby is woven in a jacquard pattern. It takes a bit, but if you look really closely you see a topographical map, but not of geography - you'll find pigs and tigers instead. You might have to look a little closer to see the pigs as they're surrounded by tigers, but the pigs seem to have a leg up in size. This is a playful take on the iconic 1950s "100 Tigers" print that still finds itself popular 70 years later. As always, this is a 100% proprietary fabric to the Studio D'artisan family dyed with the art of "Kurozome" which takes several layers of painstaking base dyeing followed by Binjori or Betel nuts (giving it its deep, dark color). We think they're absolutely gorgeous and pay perfect homage to the brand's iconic mascot.

6oz Field Shirt Rainbow Nep - Grey
RGT - 6oz Field Shirt Rainbow Nep - Grey.
We've made an effort to be more conscious about our buying this year. That means that we're really only buying the truly special pieces, and this shirt is one of those. It ticks all of the boxes starting with the weight. 6oz is a wonderful transitional heaviness. It lands right in the Spring/Summer ouncage, but it's long sleeve to help you get through those cool nights. The other thing that really drew us to this piece was the color. The grey has this gorgeous purple-like charcoal that you know when you see. The big whopper was the rainbow nep for us though. Nep is leftover yarns, in this case perfectly imbued throughout the fabric in the form of rainbow. We have a weakness for multicolor nep - always have, always will and it sits perfectly alongside this grey boxier cut field shirt.

3Sixteen - Anniversary Patchwork Kantha Shirt - Indigo/Tan.
This week, 3sixteen proudly introduces a second vacation shirt to celebrate its two decades in business. Around three years ago, a collaboration began with a factory in Jaipur, India, greatly impacting the brand's direction and innovation. This partnership enabled intricate handwork on garments, and a new level of craftsmanship. The latest release, the Kantha Patchwork Shirt, exemplifies this technique.
In a previous season (FW21), the company crafted block BD shirts in earth and indigo tones, inspired by vintage work shirts. These shirts featured four distinct colors each, mimicking repaired clothing. During a visit to the Indian factory in the Fall of 2022, the production manager surprised them with a Kantha-stitched quilt made from the leftover fabric of the mentioned colorways. This quilt's bold pattern inspired the special edition 20th-anniversary Vacation Shirt.
Unlike typical designer-factory relationships, their collaboration involves a continuous exchange of novel ideas. Kantha, a traditional Indian embroidery method, involves layering discarded fabric scraps with a running stitch. While there weren't enough scraps for a full shirt run, the brand created newly dyed cotton shirting to match the original colors. Hand-stitched using Kantha, the fabric was machine-stitched into quilts and reinforced with cotton voile lining. These quilts were used to create distinct shirt patterns that we think are truly incredible. This will give the sashiko lovers of the world something new to drool over.

Studio D'Artisan - Stitched Sashiko Shirt - Indigo.
We've seen a ton of fabrics made in the Sashiko "style" at this point, but this is the first we've seen with a dobby double weave. This style of weaving, once washed, gives this swollen-like appearance that gives the fabric a 3-dimensional feel, unlike all other sashiko we've seen. These are built with super soft cotton and a heavy rinse/wash that makes them comfy from the start. They've also used oversized Tagua nut buttons to match the trousers. If the pants were any indication, this is a crowd-pleaser of a fabric in a silhouette that is beyond easy to wear.

Studio D'Artisan - "Amami Dorozome" Mud Dyed Sashiko S/S Shirt - Brown.
This series continues to blow us away, so we continue to snag whatever we can from it. Amami Dorozome is a rich tradition of mud dyeing on the island of Amami-Oshima, as the name implies. It's an ancient tradition that uses mud-dyeing techniques that includes wood chips from the Hawthorne tree. It gives it this rich, clay color that's hard to accomplish in any other way. On top of that, this is filled with a gorgeous sashiko jacquard with a check pattern. This shirt has layers! It's a little taste of summer from a brand that finds a way to surprise every time a new fabric arrives.

3Sixteen - 20th Anniversary Vacation Shirt - Peace Sign.
It feels so crazy to us that brands like 3sixteen started re-emerging from the "before times" of fashion 20 years ago. They've evolved so much over the years in order to be able to produce garments just like this. Even this iteration took years of development to glean large enough quantities for shops like us to get units. They've included their signature 20th Anniversary emerald colorway amongst a myriad of earth tones for a funky, fun summer vacation shirt. It's a linen blend that reads a lot like their gauze shirts of the recent past, but with that nice crisp feeling that we're all used to from linen. This one will help you lean into the wrinkle and be at peace with an easy-wearing, beautifully-printed wardrobe staple.

Warehouse & Co. - Lot JG-CS01 1890 - 1910 Miner's Henley - Beige, Yellow.
This was the Warehouse piece of the spring for us. The first thing that caught our eye was that ribbed collar. Its pattern drew us in and the stripes kept on giving. We honestly couldn't beleive how heavy the knit was in person. They've brushed the outside of the fabric to give it even more warmth on the coldest days. This piece could honestly be your final layer on a 40° day.
In the early 1900s, a durable knit garment emerged, primarily utilized by outdoorsmen, including loggers, miners, and prospectors, who spent considerable time in the great outdoors. Renowned for its exceptional quality, this knitwear resembled a sweater in construction, originating from the cuffs and extending up to the sleeves.
However, as the 20th century progressed, this type of garment transitioned into more practical cut-and-sewn work clothes. Crafting traditional sweaters proved to be both costly and time-consuming, leading to the adoption of a new approach. To ensure widespread accessibility, John opted for 100% cotton fabric instead of wool, delivering a comfortable and easy-to-maintain alternative (and much preferred for us).
Excitingly, this innovative adaptation promises to be a game-changer, making the garment more versatile and widely embraced. But please, for your safety, refrain from venturing into the mines. ;)

Warehouse & Co. - Lot 3091 - S/S Open Collar Shirt - Dark Chambray.
We've had a good run of form with this shirt over the years. When something has this fantastic of details, you keep that train running as long as possible. The unique pocket style from the 'Big Yank' shirts of the '30s and '40s is nothing like we'd ever seen. The Italian-style collar makes a nice relaxed feel where you can wear it open or closed. The round collars are also a nice touch. And, our favorite has to be the button-back short sleeves. We love the instant shape and vintage look this gives the piece. They have a flat hem meant to be worn untucked for the perfect summer shirt. Oh yeah, it's also selvedge chambray. Check the pictures of the inner placket for the selvedge edge. This dark variation doesn't disappoint.

Samurai - Sashiko Aloha Shirt - Natural Indigo.
Introducing the remarkable open collar shirt made from shackle-dyed indigo sashiko fabric. This shirt showcases a woven rhombus pattern, a beloved design in Japan with a rich history. Throughout the ages, this pattern has adorned various items such as family crests and crafts, serving as a symbol of prosperity and good health. The artisans skillfully express this pattern through the intricate sashiko weave, imbuing the fabric with its timeless allure.
To ensure unwavering quality at every stage, the entire process, from dyeing to weaving, is meticulously carried out within the company. This integrated approach allows for thorough quality control throughout the creation of this shirt. The fabric boasts a solid thickness, promising durability and the opportunity to age gracefully over the years, developing a unique character.
With its clean and minimalist design, this shirt features a single pocket and wooden buttons, adding a touch of natural elegance to its aesthetic.
Please note that as the fabric is hand-dyed using indigo, slight variations in color shade may occur, contributing to the distinct "taste" of each individual product. It is important to be aware that due to the nature of indigo dyeing, exposure to moisture, such as sweat or rain, may lead to color fading or transfer. Additionally, caution should be exercised as strong friction may cause the dye to transfer to other garments.
Embrace the allure of this exceptional piece, appreciating its intricate craftsmanship and embracing the unique qualities bestowed by the hand-dyeing process.

Studio D'Artisan - "Ajiro Denim" Shirt - Sumi Ink Dyed.
I don't know how they keep surprising us with fabrics, but they do every time. This basket weave fabric is almost an optical illusion built to look like a traditional basket weaving using symmetrical strips of bamboo. Studio built this fabric from the ground up using proprietary weaving techniques to create this look. Don't worry though, there are no gaps in the fabric like there would be in a basket. After weaving, they hit it with a heavy rinse to bring all that texture to the surface. Studio D'Artisan has once again raised the bar on a shirt that we can't quite put words to. The good news is, the shirts do most of the talking for us.
This particular variation is dyed with Sumi Ink, the same used for calligraphy in Japan. This will also fade with time simultaneously with the indigo.

Studio D'Artisan - 1950s Original Aloha Shirt - Yellow.
You know by now that we love a good Aloha or Hawaiian shirt. They're a classic and staple in our closets. Every year, we hope Studio is going to bless us with another one. Like all things they do, this is a 100% proprietary fabric. This print is designed in house and simply wouldn't make sense for anyone else to use. The little humanoid piggies are hilarious, as is tradition. These shirts are just fun. They blend the most amazing colors (our favorite sub color in this one is purple) and the silliest prints all without losing the plot. They are artisans making incredibly well built garments. And this Aloha is no different.

Studio D'Artisan - "Kurozome" Western Shirt - Black.
The entire "Kurozome" series was a yes for us. Any garment this black and dyed with a natural process is a yes for us. It is nearly impossible to go this dark with anythign but synthetics, but Kyoto Montsuki has found a way to do it with Binroji or Betel nuts. The only way they can accomplish this is by applying layer upon layer of a base dye before the final step which turns it into the deepest hue possible. We've had this shirt in many differnt colors now, but we don't think any of them have been as wide-reaching as this "Kurozome." The white snaps really set it over the top for us. This series is refined. It's a wonderful sleek alternative to the otherwise earthy and organic feeling of the lineup - all while still being natural.

Indigofera - Bryson Check Flannel - Sunfaded Ochre.
Another year, another amazing Bryson. The Sunfaded series has really come into its own this year for its second iteration. We really dig the undercurrent of ochre in this piece. It's light and suits the season it's been dropped in. The Bryson always has a comfy fluff, and this baby is no exception. Every year, we buy a fairly good stock in this, and every year we wind up kicking ourselves for not buying more. If that tells you anything, you should snag one of these sooner rather than later. It's the perfect blend of quality, details, and price point.

Teeter Shirt Cordova Denim - Petrol
Indigofera - Teeter Shirt Cordova Denim - Petrol.
This is a wonderful new interpretation of a beloved Summer shirt. When we sit down to buy for Spring...we had one thing in mind. Keep it light. With Indigofera, that can be somewhat difficult to achieve. When we saw this, we knew two things: it was light, and it was unique. After our initial run with the product, we simply couldn't believe the demand. We knew people would love it, but we didn't know we would need to reorder 3 times on the Rivera. Well, this round we've got a two-pocket rendition with a gorgeous Cordova denim. It's got a vintage look that we can't compare to anything else we've seen this season.

orSlow - 1960s Twill Work Shirt Vintage Fit - Beige.
The work shirt has never failed us in the past, and we figured we would snag this beautiful ls version while we had the shot. You never know when orSlow is going to reproduce these icons. The work shirt is built with a much longer silhouette in the "vintage fit." The extra length can either be seen as an ultra-contemporary fit or a tuckable long sleeve work shirt. We love the twill they use for this. It's simply buttery and the buttons are a nicy shiny, snazzy accent.

orSlow - 1960s Twill Work Shirt - Light Grey.
We were itching to get some more short sleeve options from orSlow. This seasons work shirt is cut with a shorter body and a nice contemporary fit. They've used a gorgeous cotton twill that appears to have a nice rinse/one wash treatment to soften it up. The diagonal lines of the twill are apparent alongside some pretty snazzy oversized buttons and open-style work pockets. We really enjoy this shirt as a Summer option from one of our favorite brands.

RGT - 9oz Field Shirt Twill Selvedge - Olive.
This is a first for us. Karl has modified the "Field Shirt" slightly for this short sleeve version, but it still holds true to its origins. The major differences are the chopped-off sleeves and the more uniform pocketing. It still has a boxier silhouette and a pen slot in the left pocket. They've also used those iconic black catseye buttons. The fabric is for sure the star of the show. This selvedge twill is as buttery as buttery gets. It has a nice tight weave for a smooth finish that feels extremely luxurious. They've also given us those little pokes of selvedge ticker in the side gussets and on the placket. This shirt kind of ties it all together. It's a bit of what RGT has been known for, for so many years. It's a gorgeous piece to add to any collection.

5oz Oxford Shirt Floral Linen - Grey
RGT - Oxford Shirt Floral Linen - Grey.
It's definitely that time of year when linen comes in handy. It's a super strong fiber with a ton of breathability. The real star of the show is this insane floral print. The color palette is vastly vibrant yet easy to digest. The grey is slightly more subtle, but the contrast is even more impeccable on this one. We really enjoy the way the white acts as a perfect springboard for the color, yet the base of the shirt is still considered to be a navy/royal blue. The "Oxford Shirt" is beautifully simple with just a left-hand pocket and minimal construction throughout. These babies are wonderful summer companions.

Indigofera - Delray Shirt - Stripe Ecru, Indigo.
Of all the Delray's we've seen over the years, we've never seen one with a fabric so suited to the silhouette. This deep green linen drapes like magic. It's truly a work of art in the form of a cutoff button-up. The short sleeves are welcome touch in a sea full of long sleeves. They roll perfectly or lay flat for a more artistic vibe. And most importantly, this fabric is orgasmically light. It feels so nice on the skin and actually breathes. That's all we need during the hot months.
