Momotaro

Momotaro - 13oz - Year of the Rabbit Jeans - Narrow Taper.

We felt very lucky to be a part of this limited edition "Year of the Rabbit" release. These were right up our alley with special little touches throughout. They really went above and beyond with the theme, starting with the rabbit mosaic. You have to look close, but you'll see little guys in an arctic colorway forming the GTB stripes. The hair on the patch is a really nice touch as well (it's not rabbit). There's custom details interworked throughout, including printed "Year of the Rabbit" pocket bags and jacquard liner. The interior is bonkers. There is of course all of Momo's standard, but incredible details. But, the capper has to be the peaking Rabbit laser engraved on the front coin pocket. It was a total surprise to us, and a happy one at that. The fabric is also an icon. The 13oz really shines with this one-wash treatment and is full of micro hairs and texture. We're so excited to be one of only two stores in all of the US even offering this denim! It's a rare one, that's for sure - we were only allowed to buy 10 pairs.
Momotaro - 15.7oz - Zimbabwe Selvedge Custom Black Battle Stripes - Wide Straight.

We've been looking for something a little wider than the narrow taper, and we've found just that. This Wide Straight, also known as the classic straight is just the thing to break you out of your slim jeans. We started our initial run of Momotaro with 16oz denim due to the texture, but again and again, received requests for the 15.7oz. This is Momo's iconic "Vintage Label" denim. The lore about its fading potential is heard far and wide

For our initial run with this denim, we went with black battle stripes to make the denim a little more subtle. Due to requests, we had to bring back the black stripe in this 15.7oz fabric. We've seen fades on these down the line, and we can't bring ourselves to move on from the black. It'll be something we're always drawn to. The black will sluff off more naturally with the denim, and from what we now know, will stand out nicely against a heavily faded pair. This is crocking that makes perfect sense.

Momotaro - Indigo Dyed Sashiko Pants - Narrow Tapered.

These are truly gobsmacking. They knocked us off our feet. It's everything that gets us and all of you excited. We've had so many requests for Sashiko fabric in the last few months and this might just be the perfect pair. Our signature black battle stripes have been added to this pair making them a rarity in the denim hunter world. You'll also notice copper rivets as this is the standard 5-pocket model...it's just a basket weave fabric vs twill. They also piped the busted outseam to give them a super finished look when cuffed. We can't overstate how gorgeous these are and we hope they stick around long enough for you to snag a pair.

Momotaro - 14.7oz "Legacy Blue" Copper Label Selvedge Type II Jacket - Indigo.

It was easy to see this denim was special, even though we never got to see it in person until it arrived. But, my goodness is it fancy. This is the definition of a "Legacy" denim. It's got so much texture and hair that we had trouble capturing it in images. While some of the fancy bells and whistles Momo is known for, such as the pink inseam and ticker stuck around, they really brought this one back to basics. There's a gorgeous left pocket "Peach" arcuate that we've been waiting for, for ages. We can't say enough about this Zimbabwe Cotton either. They've infused it with Silk this round for a nice hand feel and tons of character. It screams vintage. We can only expect even more great things in its future.
Momotaro - Sashiko Submarine Jacket - Indigo.

We're really jazzed that Sashiko hasn't taken on an entirely new life in 2022. It's clearly a central theme of Momotaro's entire collection for fall. It used to be a rarity that would sell out and leave people wanting more. Well now, we have the real deal from one of the original companies that brought it to popularity in multiple colors and a myriad of styles. This is one we're particularly happy to see come down the pipeline. The submarine jacket, with its stand collar, roomy fit, and oversized pockets is one of our all-time favorite silhouettes. It's an easy layering piece with a ton of character and an aptitude for fading. Plus, it's royal blue. What could go wrong?

Momotaro - 20oz Super Heavy Sashiko Type II Modified Jacket - Black.

We've now got the 20oz jacket to complete the collection. It was well worth the wait. Even though these are called Super Heavy Sashiko, the loose weave makes them a breeze to wear. They're so comfy and hit with such a nice wash that we wanted to say up front that anyone can wear them. You don't have to be a hardcore denim head to love this piece. The murdered-out GTB stripes were an instant yes to us, for obvious reasons. Even if you don't own the matching pants, you could pair these up with our proprietary line of texture denim with the same stripes. We will always have a place in our hearts and a place in our store for sashiko. It just so happens that this is one of those rare ones that you don't see very often, so we are super stoked on it.
Momotaro - Sashiko Type II Modified Jacket - Indigo

Crazily enough, we think we ordered this jacket many years ago and it never went into production. At least if memory serves us correctly, that's what happened. We never forgot about it, so when it rolled back in for pre-production we had to scoop it. We loved that it was a blueberry blue version of the jackets we've seen in the past. It has such a gorgeous royal blue, or natural indigo feel to it. And the GTB stripes are just the right saturation. The wash process has definitely knocked down some of the color. But have no fear - these will still fade incredibly well. They've just given you a bit of a head start and in the process made a jacket that's a lot less volatile with an incredible drape. Oh, and we didn't even mention it's sashiko!
Momotaro - Herringbone Work Cardigan - Beige.

In ten years of doing this, we've never seen a "work cardigan." Sure we've seen plenty of cardigans, but never one labeled specifically that. They don't disappoint either. These read like a collarless lightweight military jacket when you see them. Something between a noragi and French painter's jacket. But they are in fact built a lot like a cardigan with the open style hand warmer pockets and 5-button construction. We think the added button closure on the wrist also adds a nice extra layer of style confusion. It's seriously refreshing to see a garment like this come through the doors. And the herringbone fabric is gorgeous. We simply couldn't resist getting both colors in these black GTB stripe cardigans.

Momotaro - Original Sashiko Padding Jacket - Indigo.

We are so stoked on this piece. The contemporary silhouette mixed with traditional Japanese elements is all we can really ask for in a garment. It's a blend of two worlds we love, and it turned out pretty immaculate. The padding is nice and cozy, feeling a bit like a really nice robe. The sashiko elements are packed with indigo, so once again the potential for fading is above and beyond. We love the piping. We love the candy-shaped buttons. We're trying our hardest not to add yet another fantastic piece to our wardrobes, but the urge might just get the best of us.
Momotaro - 14oz Herringbone Type II Modified Jacket - Indigo.

We've lusted over this piece for months and it's finally here. We really only ever get a glimpse at herringbone selvedge when it's in an overdye or "double-dyed" fabric. This one is just your classic 14oz selvedge...but the herringbone makes it so much more. The stripes the herringbone creates are a fader's dream. It also makes an otherwise casual piece a little more dressy. This fabric is created by running the twill in different directions to make that v pattern. This is a right-hand and left-hand twill all in one. It's also got some killer battle stripes.
Momotaro - 14.7oz "Legacy Blue" Selvedge - Narrow Tapered.

It was easy to see this denim was special, even though we never got to see it in person until it arrived. But, my goodness is it fancy. This is the definition of a "Legacy" denim. They've infused it with Silk this round for a nice hand feel and tons of character. It screams vintage. And the leather patch on this baby is super thick and riveted in place. You'll notice the veg tan piece has been slightly warped from touching water. We can only expect even more great things in its future.
Momotaro - 18oz Heavy Indigo/Beige Selvedge with Beige Battle Stripes - Tight Tapered.

We were so tempted to add our signature black battle stripes to this denim, but ultimately our eye for a unique, new color won out. We really love the way the creamy color of the stripes compliments the beige weft on this denim. If you've been following us at all in the last 9 years, you know how much we love an earth-tone colored weft. It's also right in our heaviness sweet spot. We typically wear between 14-18oz denim at the shop. This pair will give you that iconic "dirty fade" that's so sought after by denim heads. The beige weft will eventually poke through giving you a rich tone that only comes from unbleached fibers. This is a special one with a slight slub that we can't imagine people will be happy slipped through their fingers.

The fit this round is really impeccable. We think they opened up both fits to allow for the heavier denim, which in our opinion suits these fits. The fabric is also draping extremely well for an 18oz denim.

Momotaro - Original Herringbone Triple-Yarn Twill Check Shirt - Grey.

Well, we thought the previous versions of this couldn't be outdone...let's start by saying that we were massively wrong. This fabric is unlike anything we've ever felt from Momo. It's like they took their previous designs and fluffed them up a bit. This round is slightly heavier than the last round seeing that it's 3-yarn cotton. This gives the fabric dimension too. The variegation in each square is full of multiple colors adding depth to an otherwise flat surface. On top of that, they brushed it on the exterior. It's so soft and so cozy. They topped this off with the classic beige ceramic buttons for a bit of pop. We can only explain this but we wish you could feel it before you purchase. It's incredible and you won't be disappointed.

Momotaro - Original Herringbone Check Shirt - Indigo.

Well, we thought the previous versions of this couldn't be outdone...let's start by saying that we were massively wrong. This is the first time we've seen an Indigo variation which gives this piece a sku of its own. It deserves it. Unlike its other two counterparts, it has black buttons instead of white. This makes the piece more tonal and makes it feel like the special one. It's gotta be a hard choice between the three though. If you're an indigo fanatic, this may be a clear choice. This round is slightly heavier than the last round seeing that it's 3-yarn cotton. This gives the fabric dimension too. Momotaro - 20oz Super Heavy Black Sashiko Pants - Narrow Tapered.

Super Heavyweight might be a little overzealous on this pair as they are some of the most comfortable pairs we've ever put on. They may be heavy, but the feel is incredible because of the loose weave and the single rinse. These are truly gobsmacking. They knocked us off our feet. It's everything that gets us and all of you excited. The world sashiko alone is enough to get those temperatures rising but it's also a 20oz fabric. Our signature black battle stripes just so happen to be the standard protocol on this pair. You'll also notice copper rivets as this is the standard 5 pocket model...it's just a basket weave fabric vs twill. They also piped the outseam to give them a super finished look when cuffed. We can't overstate how gorgeous these are and we hope they stick around long enough for you to snag a pair.
Momotaro - Sashiko Vest - Indigo.

We were super stoked to see our favorite sashiko fabric in a vest. This piece is quite a bit more contemporary than its hunting vest counterpart. The piped pockets and sleek design ensure that. This baby looks great over the top of a tee shirt or your favorite flannel. The big draw for this fabric is how it pops. It's much brighter than the coverall to start and will continue to fade with time. That royal blue is out of this world.
Momotaro - Dobby Sashiko USN Coverall - Indigo.

We kicked ourselves so hard for missing this piece in the past. Well, we decided to go with both colors and give you one of the hardest decisions in the world this time. This is one of the most incredibly stylish pieces they've ever released. The texture catches everyone's attention, but when you slip this masterpiece on it starts to sink its hooks in. Then, you look in the mirror and it's over. This is an amazing layering piece. It works for denim heads, streetwear guys, and office goers all the same. This is one of those pieces people talk about long after it's gone.
Momotaro - 15.7oz - Black Selvedge Custom Black Battle Stripes - Tight Tapered.

This is Momotaro's slimmest fit, but we think it suits the black. Black denim is meant to at minimum be slim, and if you size down on these they're going to be skinny. We started our initial run from Momotaro with 16oz denim due to the texture, but again and again, received requests for the 15.7oz. So, we decided to double down and get the black/black as well. And...we added the black GTB stripe. This is Momo's iconic "Vintage Label" denim. Its a fluffy Zimbabwe cotton with lots of fading potential, even in black.

For our initial run with this denim, we went with black battle stripes to make the denim a little more subtle. Due to requests, we had to bring back the black stripe in this 15.7oz fabric and we thought, why not include it on the black pair as well. We've seen fades on these down the line, and we can't bring ourselves to move on from the black. It'll be something we're always drawn to. The black will sluff off more naturally with the denim, and from what we now know, will stand out nicely against a heavily faded pair. This is crocking that makes perfect sense.

Momotaro always includes signature details, and this pair is no different.

Momotaro - Texture Selvedge Custom Black Battle Stripes - Natural Tapered.

The 0605-82 from Momotaro is a much roomier fit in the top block with a nice strong taper. These guys are for our shoppers who need a little more room in the seat, but still want the look of a tight leg opening. We couldn't help but be enamored by the texture of this denim. A low tension weaving technique helped create this 16oz slubby powerhouse.

For our initial run with this denim, we went with black battle stripes to make the denim a little more subtle. It has been the most requested pair we've ever had online, and we've finally brought them back. We've seen fades on these down the line, and we can't bring ourselves to move on from the black. It'll be something we're always drawn to. The black will sluff off more naturally with the denim, and from what we no know, will stand out nicely against a heavily faded pair. Momotaro - Denim Tote Bag - Indigo.

After our last round of totes, we knew we needed this one. We really resonated with this more simplified print. It's a fairly hardy 13oz denim with the pink/white selvedge id tucked away on the inside. You've also got those hardy leather straps with a copper snap to keep the top closed up. These are simply delightful little bags.
Momotaro - Classic Denim Jacket - Indigo O/W.

We thought it was time to bring one of the classics to the forefront. This classic denim jacket is not like a trucker, nor a type I. It has its own vintage, unique feel based on those riveted front patch pockets. You've probably seen this modified with canvases and upper pockets, but this is the original worker's style. Open pocket styles allowed for easy storage and removal of tools. They also act as a place to put those ever so pesky hands. They riveted the pockets to give them extra strength as these were the first things to get ripped off or blown out. They were truly used. It also has the classic "T-Back" design. This jacket is extremely simple compared to a lot of more modern type ii and type iiis...and that's why we love it. It's the simple details coupled with the 15.7 Zimbabwe fabric that makes this thing an instant cop.
Momotaro - Sashiko Hunting Vest - Indigo.

If Momotaro makes Sashiko, we buy it. We've been eyeballing this vest since we got the catalogs from them a few years ago. Well, we finally pulled the trigger. This thing takes its design from vintage hunting vests, but for us, it was always about finding a contemporary fit. Whether you wear it tight to the chest or a little looser for layering, this easily will fit into a more modern wardrobe. It has three patch pockets and this unique placket at the center, oversized button! We really dig this piece, and can't wait to see it fade to those electric blues.

Momotaro - Sashiko Type II Jacket - Green Tea Dyed.

Sashiko has very quickly gone from something you could never get your hands on, to a staple in our industry. Sashiko and denim are becoming synonymous - you can't have one without the other. Normally, it comes in darker colors that can be hard to pair with a brand new pair of raws. However, this time they've hit it with a green tea dye that creates this incredible washed-out-looking beige. It has the feel of a vintage jacket, but it's brand new. This color will also fade, a bit more evenly, because it was done after the jacket was complete, vs in the yarn stage.
Momotaro - 15THL01 - 15.7oz Anniversary Selvedge Jeans - Natural Tapered.

Man, oh man, have we been waiting on these for a while. We had customers telling us about them before we ever even knew the anniversary series was a thing. Well, they've truly delivered this time with some incredibly stunning 15.7oz Left Hand Twill. This one is for the beige/brown weft lovers *raises hand. We can not wait to see you break this in, because we've seen what the fabric looks like (it's shown below). This will honestly be the piece everyone wishes they had snagged when it's gone.

They've also hit it with a one-wash treatment to make this weighty, yet soft fabric even softer. The details you see throughout will absolutely blow your mind. We're talking a gold and peach metallic selvedge ID. We're also talking custom branding work throughout. The indigo-dyed deerskin leather has a foil 15 and a custom peach boy with an Eboshi hat. This all relates back to royalty and a coming-of-age ceremony when a Samurai clan member would turn 15. You've got gold brass embossed buttons that shine like no other and copper rivets throughout. The pocket bags are printed with beautiful little symbols and have a jacquard pattern. This truly is a pair for the ages.

Momotaro - Original Check Work Shirt - Peach/Pink.

Man, oh, man. They're back with a twist this time. Last year was a more classic, buffalo pattern. This time, they have a ton of texture and beautiful lines to boot. It's still a herringbone check, but you'll notice more of a grid-like pattern this time. The colors are simply to die for. The deepest most saturated colors we see from Momotaro always show their heads in these check shirts. They're a heavy fabric with a nice brushed surface, making them not only soft but super warm. You'll notice the classic Momo details with the triple needle stitch, open style pockets with button closure, and a wide placket on the front. This is the Momo prized possession of the season. Now the only choice is which color? We grabbed the special edition peach color to go along with the second release of the 15th collection. After seeing them in person, we had to do it.

Momotaro - 15th Anniversary Denim Shoulder Bag - Left Hand Twill.

The 15th Anniversary has been one of our favorite moments of the year. This bad boy is a big part of that. We're a big fan of these shoulder bag styles, so you know when a denim version of it popped up we had to snag it. The silver, diagonal battle stripes are a nice change up from the former versions gold. Plus, the level of detail on this bag is great. You've got all the commemorative pieces of the 15th, but with a twist. The veg tan patch is going to age beautifully as well as the zipper pulls both interior and exterior. Plus, you get the green custom label. This one is one we've personally chosen for our closets. It also has the beautiful beige/natural weft that comes with most left-hand twills.
