The texture combined with their ability to soak in the indigo dye is so alluring to us - mostly for the fading possibilities. It's that feeling that a fabric like this gives us and the evolution of the garment that really matters. Iron Heart has done the perfect version of this shirt on a 12oz dobby loom woven cloth with Sashiko thread stitching. Dating back to the 17th century, Sashiko is a traditional form of Japanese folk embroidery used for both decorative and functional reinforcement of fabrics. With a translation meaning “little stabs”, the technique involves a running stitch that creates aesthetically pleasing geometric patterns in a piece of cloth, simultaneously reinforcing the weave for added durability. They've added an extra layer of richness to this already heavily textured and supple fabric by dyeing the warps and wefts differently. The upper layer you see on the face is rope dyed meaning it will fade while the weft layer is both cheese and reactive dyed. The top layer will fade while the underside remains steadfast. Tommy was able to go back to his standard size for this piece. He's wearing a large in the photos. For more of a jacket feel, he could probably go up to an XL, but as a CPO shirt the large works perfectly. The CPO is a bit roomier and the sleeves are back to normal on this. Tommy is 5'10," 163lbs with a 40" chest.
