Pure Blue Japan is one of those brands we've danced around for years and continually questioned why we had yet to carry. Well, the wait is over as we've finally done something we should have done long ago. This brand is known worldwide for its attention to detail and heavily textured selvedge. This is achieved by using low-tension weaves that create not only textured but hairy loomstate denim. Their lineup is always good and always small batch meaning you only get a shot at a few new pieces each season.
The love for black denim in the last 18 months has skyrocketed. I think some incredible faded pictures of heavyweight black denim have been making their rounds on the internet and have excited a whole new fervor for colors like this. When we heard the words "Tea-Core" combined with "Selvedge" we were instantly thinking "Take our money." If you're unfamiliar, tea-core is the term used in leather work to describe generally hand-painted or overdyed black product that usually has a core or base of natural or brown color. The result of this in the leather world is a vintage patina that reveals the lighter base as the black cracks, peals, and buffs off. So, PBJ's intention with this series of denim is to procure the same look as the rope dyed black crocks from the brown-dyed core. We honestly can't believe it has yet to be done because it's such an incredible idea. These will fade from a pure black to a rustic brown over the months and years of hard wear and we are so excited to see it happen.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy popped on a 33 in these. He's finding this is his standard fit in most denim these days, as it leaves him a little margin and a roomy leg opening. With this one, he was coming in completely blind, and going with his standard Japanese denim size seemed to work. These were a comfy fit overall with that mid to high rise, straight leg, and extremely slight taper to the ankle. They have plenty of room in the thigh and leg due to the straight cut. Tommy is 5'10,' 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
