Studio D'Artisan - 15.5oz "Amami Dorozome" Sashiko Denim Jeans Relaxed Taper - Dark Brown
As you probably know at this point, the "Amami Dorozome" lineup has a stranglehold on us. We have a hard time saying no to anything dyed with this ancient process. We're a sucker for an earth-tone backing. And it doesn't get much more earthy than literal earth - mud (and wood in this case). On the island of Amami-Oshima, they've perfected the process of combining mud and vegetable juices to create a unique color and texture unknown to us anywhere else in the world. This year, they've given us a wood dye as well that forms the second layer of this fabric - the first being indigo. It has a washed-out feel from day one in most garments, but with this pair, it creates a rich, luxurious look. It definitely has a tea-core feeling to us. For the Dark Brown pair, they've added the mud dye as the third layer to create a dark, almost black look to the pant. These are going to fade like nothing we've ever seen. This fabric mimics Japanese tradition in that a jacquard machine recreates the hand stitch used to repair garments and kimonos in the past. The stitching, underlying denim, and wood dye, and mud-dye will fade in tandem on these to create one of the most unique things in your closet.

Fit Notes: These guys are small like almost all Studio bottoms. Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size 34 this round. He typically wears a 32 from most brands and sizes up to a 33 often to get the fit he wants in the leg. In order to get the best fit, he needed to go up twice. They have a higher rise (which helped with the waist), a more relaxed seat, and a moderate taper through the leg. Tommy is 5'10," 180lbs with a 33-34" waist.
