Moonstar

Moonstar - Alweather Sneaker - Brown

The Alweather was in our wheelhouse from the start, but we had to wait for stock to come around and it's finally here. The high vulcanization on this pair makes them perfect for guys who want to wear sneakers in rough conditions, but don't want to walk around with wet feet. They have an iconic style reminiscent of the most hardcore boots of the past. It takes style cues from both American and Japanese footwear, marrying the two perfectly. The Khaki was always on our list, and we're so happy to get it in our hands this year.

Moonstar - Alweather Sneaker - Brick, Gum.

We’ve admired Moonstar from a distance for some time now. The story of the Moonstar factory in Kyusyu, Japan is now one of legend. The attention to detail and fine crafting are unmatched in the industry. As we made our transition from solely a boot company to sneakers, we knew we must have the best. The process of ka-ryu or vulcanization has been perfected in their factory in Kurume since the companies inception in 1873. The canvas uppers are sewn slowly with precision while the rubber strips and soles are carefully inlaid to prepare for their infamous vulcanization process. The shoes are heated to 120° for 70 minutes making the rubber soft and gummy for your walking pleasure.

We wanted to branch out from our standard Gym Classic deliveries, and this round we've been lucky to be able to snag a Moonstar, Shoes Like Pottery crossover. This is considered a Moonstar silhouette, but let's be honest...it's the 01JP Low. So, if you love that shoe and you want something with a bit of twist...the windowpane design of the Low Basket K Hogan might be right up your alley. The bottoms are a deeper, more royal blue than the baby blue you're used to. The hand-made pattern is the time-consuming side of this fabric that makes it a more high-end price point. And, the design makes these sneakers a little more high fashion.

We wanted to branch out from our standard Gym Classic deliveries, and this round we've been gifted with the leather Plain Court. These things are shiny like a brand new pair of veneers. There's much more cushion in the body of this pair than its canvas predecessor. There's also a slight arch in the back that gives them even more support. If you're looking for something a little more stepped up from your classic canvas sneaker, this is the place to go. We really love the way they look with a brand new pair of raw denim.
