James Dant x Dehen 1920 - Varsity Jacket - Deep Navy, Rust. Excited is an understatement when it comes to this custom jacket cut just for James Dant. We've been eyeballing a collaboration with Dehen for about 8 months, and it's finally here. This is the perpetuation of a beautiful relationship we've been forming over the past 18 months. We wanted to develop a varsity jacket first because it's such an iconic piece. And for that reason, we made it with some nostalgic colors. We started with the deep navy melton wool base from Pendleton Wool Mills. We knew from the beginning that navy and rust was the combo we wanted. From there, we played with the design until we came up with the double red line ribbing design. This piece was made specifically for this jacket to match the deep navy body. Then, we had some decisions to make in terms of interior and hardware. Once we put the antique brass snaps on the mockup, there was no turning back. It created a nice contrast but also didn't steal the show. And, we had to go with the quilted interior liner. It's such a perfect addition to make this piece able to withstand even the coldest months. We sent off our Lucky Number 7 Clubs tag to eloquently stitch onto the interior pocket, and the piece was complete. This is a limited, exclusive run for James Dant. If past experience has proven anything, it's that Dehen Varsity Jackets don't stick around, let alone a custom one. We've worked very hard to make this baby a sleek yet nostalgic piece to match our specific style. We hope you love it!

Fit Notes: Our first impression is that Dehen fits with a more American cut (i.e. larger). We've been proven wrong with the past few pieces though. We would say this brand has one of the truest fits on the market if that's possible. Shop owner Tommy is wearing a medium in the picture. The only way he can wear a small is over a tee-shirt, and while it has a more trimming look...it's much better for him to have the extra room. The medium fits spot on with a button-up or sweatshirt underneath. Keep in mind, this jacket is thick and lined....and all measurements are taken from the outside. So there's going to be a lot of padding there you need to account for. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with a 40" chest.

Apparel

Studio D'Artisan - "Amami Dorozome" Heavyweight Check Flannel Shirt - Brown.

The last time we saw this flannel it was dyed with Kakishibu. We didn't think that could be topped, but you know how much we love mud. Amami Dorozome is an age-old process done on the island of Amami-Oshima in Japan. It's a blend of mud and vegetable oil that creates rich earth tones in a washed-out, well-worn pigment only achievable through this process. In a traditional cotton check pattern such as this, it shines its brightest. We didn't get our hands on this personally last time, but we aren't going to let this one slip through our fingers.

Studio D'Artisan - 15.5oz Black O/W Sashiko Denim Jeans - Relaxed Taper.

These guys keep one-upping the Sashiko game every year. We didn't get a chance to see these in person, but we're so glad we picked them up. They are so much better than we could've even imagined. At first sight, they look like a denim pant lined with a hickory stipe screen print. Then, we got close up and realized it was the vertical sashiko creating that line work. The hand-feel after the one-wash is beyond soft, but they're still packed with so much color you're still going to get those incredible highs and lows in the knees. The great part about sashiko is you get varied high points throughout the garment that catch wear in a different way. The inspiration for sashiko garments derives from the Japanese sashiko which never truly died. They would use pieces of the last garment to create the new, hand stitching throughout. Well, they've taken this concept and created a modern work of art. They've used a combination of No.6 warp and No.5 weft yarns on specially calibrated Jacquards looms. Their hope is to replicate the Sashiko stitchwork of the kimonos, and we'd say they've accomplished that pretty damn well.

Iron Heart - 13oz Military Serge Western Shirt - Brown.

The only thing that could've improved this serge western was a new color. This one was originally called Mocha Brown, which we think is very suitable. It's this rich color that suits this now iconic shirt. It used to be that we rarely saw green from Iron Heart, but now green is a staple. So, we've been super stoked to see khakis and browns rearing their pretty heads. You can't go wrong with the western cut, unless you don't size up, as it has some absolutely gorgeous details. We love the yokes and Permex buttons the most on these beauties.
