SP-084S - 45th "Hinode-Awa" Natural Indigo Selvedge - Regular Straight

The "Hinode-Awa" collection taps into Japan’s vibrant and centuries-old tradition of color, bringing to life shades that exude warmth, familiarity, and a comforting sense of home.

For their 45th anniversary, Studio D'Artisan went all out, creating a denim that embodies the heart of "Japanese colors" with a stunning mix of indigo and madder red. The indigo is dyed using the time-honored "Awa-Sei Aizome" technique, which involves around 30 washes to unveil its true, rich color. With every wash, rough patches disappear, leaving behind a beautifully deep and evolving shade of indigo that only gets better with time and wear.

On the flip side, the weft is dyed with "madder red", a natural plant-based dye that has been around for centuries. Legend has it that Queen Himiko herself sent it as a gift, and it was later featured in Japan's national flag during the Meiji era. The marriage of deep indigo and rich madder red creates a fabric that’s not just unique but also pays homage to the luxurious colors once reserved for Japanese royalty. This denim is a perfect blend of tradition and cool, letting you wear a piece of Japan’s colorful history with effortless style.

A variance of +/-.5" is within tolerance. 

Fit Notes: This roomier fit seems to be coming more in line with what we're used to in the waist. Tommy would have been able to fit into a 33 in these, but went with a 34 because that is his rule of thumb with Studio. He always starts there, and usually is either solid or needs one more size up. This regular straight is specing a bit larger in the waste. We still recommend sizing up once, but you could potentially get away with your true size if the measurements line up. Tommy is 5'10," 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
