We get so excited for the MIJ release each year, and for good reason - it's the best thing Naked & Famous makes. They are known for being a brand at a really solid price with exceptional quality. Well, they threw all frivolity out the window for the Made in Japan pair. They've gone for the full Japanese experience and added all of the bells and whistles.

The fabric you're seeing may look entirely new as it's the first iteration of black MIJ to date...but in truth, the fabric should be familiar to you as it's based on the impeccable and most sought-after MIJ10 Okayama Spirit, which dates all the way back to the very first iteration of this series. It's the OG MIJ. This is a 16oz unsanforized, slubby selvedge with a unique uneven texture. It is even more amplified by the traditional Tempi or rinse-wash treatment which helps the cotton come alive while taking out the volatility. Probably the most important part of this "Kuro" (black) fabric is the sulfur-dying process. This is a rope dye that reacts very similarly to indigo in that the core of the denim remains natural. It will crock, fade, and on a microscopic level chip away from the core of the denim. This means you're going to get undeniably incredible black-to-grey fading.

Those bells and whistles we talked about...what are they? Well, this pair features a traditional-looking red line selvedge that is thinner than any of the other pairs in the lineup. What does traditional mean? To us, it's that braided look where you can see three distinct yarns worked together to create the edge. It looks chunky and less uniform than modern selvedge IDs. They also feature back pocket rivets. This is important for the real nerds out there, like us, because of its capacity to create unique back pocket fades. It's also stronger. They've included their signature "Flower of Carnage" embroidery which is instantly recognizable to true MIJ fans. You'll also notice these are fully monochromatic from the stitching all the way up to the supple dear skin leather patch. The iron-capped buttons are even coated in black to fit the design. Additionally, the hardware is traditional in that it is meant to age with the denim. You'll notice oxidation on the rivets and rust on the buttons as the denim lives out its life. This pair is set to be one for the ages and has had our denim spidey senses tingling from the moment we opened the box.

Fit Notes: Tommy is wearing a size 33 waist in these. He decided, based on. the measurements to stick with the same size he wears in the Weird Guy. The major difference with these is the leg opening and room through the leg. They lose virtually all of the taper you gain from the Weird Guy. If you want a true straight fit, these are the ones. We still recommend sizing up once from whatever you normally wear. The most important part on straight jeans is always going to be the waist. These fit him perfectly. Tommy is 5'10", 163lbs with a 33-34" waist.

*The True Guy is a straight leg fit with a medium rise along with extra room in the seat and thigh that falls straight from knee to hem.*
