Moonstar - Alweather Sneaker - Brown The Alweather was in our wheelhouse from the start, but we had to wait for stock to come around and it's finally here. The high vulcanization on this pair makes them perfect for guys who want to wear sneakers in rough conditions, but don't want to walk around with wet feet. They have an iconic style reminiscent of the most hardcore boots of the past. It takes style cues from both American and Japanese footwear, marrying the two perfectly. The Khaki was always on our list, and we're so happy to get it in our hands this year.

Moonstar - Alweather Slip-On Sneaker - Brown

The Alweather was in our wheelhouse from the start, but we had to wait for stock to come around and it's finally here. The high vulcanization on this pair makes them perfect for guys who want to wear sneakers in rough conditions, but don't want to walk around with wet feet. These might be a little less waterproof, as the upper is low, slip on vs the high top. We still think these would be fun shoes to go sloshing around in the mud in. They were definitely fun to wear for the photoshoot. They're by far the most unique slip-on we've ever slipped on.

We’ve admired Moonstar from a distance for some time now. The story of the Moonstar factory in Kyusyu, Japan is now one of legend. The attention to detail and fine crafting are unmatched in the industry. As we made our transition from solely a boot company to sneakers, we knew we must have the best. The process of ka-ryu or vulcanization has been perfected in their factory in Kurume since the companies inception in 1873. The canvas uppers are sewn slowly with precision while the rubber strips and soles are carefully inlaid to prepare for their infamous vulcanization process. The shoes are heated to 120° for 70 minutes making the rubber soft and gummy for your walking pleasure.

Fit Notes:  So here's the skinny. People get very confused about sizing, and the best way we know to remedy that is by comparing them to other shoes. These shoes are known to run pretty true. You can size down but you'll most likely feel the squeeze of the rubber toe cap if you do. Take your typical Converse Chuck 70 and stick with that (on the US size chart). If you land in between at an 8.5, take the next size up to a 9. Shop owner Tommy is wearing size 7.5's (which is the US 8) in the pictures.

*He is typically an 8.5 in Converse. In Red Wing, he wears an 8 in almost every last. Because these are slip ones, and he would typically not wear thicker socks or an insert, he can size down half a size to the US 8 (listed size 7.5)*

This shoe uses a different last, so they changed the list size of the shoes. Ultimately, they fit the same as the US sizes listed to the right (if you've owned Moonstar in the past, stick with the US size you bought previously.) Without an additional orthotic insole, he can wear a size 8 from Moonstar, but with an insole and thicker socks, he wears a size 9. So, essentially if you were to take these shoes out of the box, and slip them on with no sock and no insert, you're going to go with your true Red Wing boot size which may mean sizing down if you're an in-betweener. If you plan to wear your Chups or thick wool socks with these, you'll be able to size up! That's the best we've got on these and we hope it helps. Reach out with any questions.

Freenote - 15oz Avila Slim Straight Denim - Blue/Brown.

It's been some time since we've had indigo denim from Freenote, and we couldn't think of a better introduction than this blue/brown. If you know anything about our preferences, you know we love an earth-tone weft. Well, it doesn't get any more earthy than this. The brown on these is deeper than any we've seen from persimmon, turmeric, or catechu dyes in the past. It's a true mocha-colored brown that we think makes for one hell of a stylistic denim. The contrast between indigo and brown is a lot less harsh than that of a traditional jean, and this makes for a better-looking cuff in our opinion. It's also right in our sweet spot for weight. We really dig anything between 14-16oz. It has the perfect amount of crunch to give you all of those wonderful lines around the legs without being so hard to break in. This is the fabric we've been waiting for Freenote to work with for years!

Freenote - CD-4 Jacket - Black.

When we saw this fabric, even via catalog images, we knew we had to have it in the shop. It's such a unique twist for the guys at Freenote that lends to a more contemporary look. If you're like us, you'll think this baby is waxed up front. Crazy enough, it's not. This is a double pigment dyed fabric from Japan that gives off the look of a waxed piece, without all the upkeep of a waxed piece. It has a nice crunchy texture to it that even feels waxed in person. We couldn't believe our ears when they told us about it at a recent show. It's lined throughout the body with Alpaca and the sleeves have this gorgeous burnt orange satin. This thing is truly luxurious. It's so warm and looks so damn good. It functions like an N-1 at about half the price!

Freenote - Jepson Sashiko Plaid - Indigo.

The Jepson is a known staple at this point, but their ability to make it look new with every release is pretty astonishing. We said that last time but they've done it again. A mix of sashiko and plaid is almost too much to handle. It's a classic 2 pocket shirt that can be worn with almost anything. It has so many layers to explore right now, and even more, will expose its true nature once the indigo starts to fade. This baby is a standalone piece that doesn't really need other layers to make it pop.
Indigofera - Kurt Jacket - Indigo Single Stripe.

The single stripe has become a staple at the shop over the last couple of years, but always in pant form. When we saw this classic chore coat-style work jacket come up, we couldn't say no. This fabric always constructs so nicely and the indigo pops like crazy when it's hit with the one wash. We are super intrigued by the mismatched pockets and all the extra sewing work throughout. The extra pockets and banded collar are the extra details that draw you in, but most people stay for that gorgeous Japanese fabric.
